Feeling pretty miserable

Recommended Posts

I had surgery Friday and Sunday I felt pretty yucky then was doing ok Monday and ended up vomiting Monday night. What the dr said is swelling can reach its worst 2-3 days after surgery. So you could be very swollen, internally, right now. The emotions are normal as well. We've made a huge change and its easy to question that. We will see it was the right decision but we have to go through the healing process. Hang in there!

Hi everyone today I am six weeks post op and I just started feeling better. I had so many doubts and sadness about doing this and fear and regret. I thought I'd made the worst mistake of my life. I couldn't walk from the pain sometimes and forget about sleeping on my stomach which I've done all my life. All I can say is that today I'm having a good day. Lost 26 lb post op and can eat anything I want just not as much as I use to. I never thought I'd say this but it does improve. Some of us have slower recoveries than others. Pamper yourself and as a previos post said one minute at a time.

cda97, hope its going better for you. Ive been dealing with hiccups and pressure in my abdomen. Called the doc and I found out that I have been drinking Water before and after my Protein Shakes (meals) and that's a no-no. Now that I've stopped doing that I feel a little better. I think at this point I feel kinda stuck like Im not getting anywhere or what in the world have I done.....ugggghhh-this is a roller coaster for sure!!!

I was banded on 4/29. My emotions are a rollercoaster still at this point. The first week after surgery was almost hell, I felt like a had an elephant sitting on my chest and my shoulder in a vise... I seriously thought at time I was having a heart attack. I called my surgeon and he came into the office on a Sunday! He said I had a lot of swelling so he removed the Fluid from my band and it was some relief :) Now anything I try to get down I have terrible gas pains (totally embarrassing) I got 3 more days on liquids then start mushies I just pray this gets easier... I hate to say anything negative to my family because I don't want to hear I told you so... So I will suffer in silence but I know how everyone feels

A new day! I still feel cruddy but much better today. I have been walking every chance I get and the longer the walks the better. I still can't tolerate much more than Water or broth but feeling better every day. I am so thankful to be able to talk with others in my situation. It was so nice to know I wasn't the only one having these issues. LBT is a lifesaver.

Whew! I feel like I am FINALLY over the hump. I am 2 weeks post op as of yesterday. My soreness and gas are finally gone. Even my port site has finally quit hurting and it isn't painful to bend over, etc. I'm still on full liquids, but have discovered some new foods that have made it more tolerable. I've lost 25 lbs and a ton of inches. My incisions are almost healed and it doesn't look like I ever had surgery. I was in a bad place a week ago, but it does get better and I know now this was the best decision I've ever made! We are all healing at a different pace and our diet progressions are all definitely different.. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel and its worth it!

Happy to hear you are doing well. What new foods have you discovered? When do you progress to mushy food?

I start mushy foods in a couple of days, but I've been allowed to start incorporating some over the weekend. I really like the V8 Fusions. I drink a can every morning. I also found some fat free yogurt that is apple turnover flavored and de-lish. My nutritionist has allowed me to put tuna and chicken salad in my Ninja and purée it to pudding like texture. I put a little relish in it first. I also put potato salad in my ninja. I add a little more milk to it, but it's nice to get more flavor than just plain mashed potatoes. My favorite meal that I started this weekend and NUT approved is one Vienna sausage smushed up with a little mustard on it and a Laughing Cow cheese. That cheese is awesome, I make it last forever and it turns into a paste in your mouth. I also like the cinnamon cream of wheat in the mornings. Oh, and I started having a scrambled egg. I can only eat half of it, but it really fills me up.

I have been walking/jogging on my treadmill for 40 mins everyday and I typically have one of the more filling selections after I have exercised. I still eat my Soups, applesauces, Jello, etc.

I'm just not obsessing (and dreaming!) about food like I was last week. My cravings have changed and I'm not starving all the time. I think my body has finally accepted this new way of eating.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
