cda97 63 Posted May 7, 2013 I really appreciate all the support. Since starting this post tonight I have become very ill. I keep involuntarily trying to vomit. I have taken phenegren but honestly not sure if it is helping or hurting at this point. So, I may not get back on here for awhile but I really do appreciate all the positive comments. chrissy2013 2 Posted May 7, 2013 I am glad I'm not the only one feeling my mind playing with me. Banded May 2nd and super weak and lightheaded. Frustrated because I'm not used to this and questioning if I made the right decision. I know I did, and it helps so much to hear others stories. Thank you!!!! trtoussau 2 Posted May 7, 2013 Hang in there. I was banded in may 2nd and able to have strained Soups starting today. Last night was rough but pop sickles seemed to help. Be sting its worth the end result.
kbell2011 131 Posted May 7, 2013 Oh my gosh... I know the feeling. It DOES get better! I've been banded for 8 days. Yesterday I could start the puréed foods and this next Monday I will start mushy food. <-- I know everyone's post op diet is different. On day 4 I had a meltdown. I had put together 4 meals for me to (or anyone) to pop in the oven to feed my family for the few days I was down. The evening of day 4, I was getting my kids plates fixed and realized I couldn't even TASTE the food to see if it was good. Ha! IT GETS EASIER, I PROMISE! Hang in there, these days will seem like a blur very soon!
cda97 63 Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks everyone! I've had a pretty rough day. Due to the vomiting they did a Barium Swallow. The good news is there is no obstruction but as they suspected I am very tight from the amount of swelling. So even a sip is hard to get down right now. It's just crazy cause I went from worrying about getting by on liquids to worrying about getting any liquids down. I know it will get easier but I'm just in a tough spot today. I appreciate the continued support. We will all get through this together and be better for it. 2 2muchfun and Terry Poperszky reacted to this
crafty_lady1971 17 Posted May 7, 2013 I was banded on Friday. Today I am feeling a mix of starvation and sick to my stomach. I do not see how I can make it on full liquids for 11 more days. Any tips on how to survive? Believe me, you do not want to put anything but liquids in your stomach right now. The Protein shakes should make you feel full. Change them up and try new ways to change the flavor. I put some instant Decaf in mine and still do once in a while. It tastes great. You can also put frozen strawberries, mixed berries, bananas, etc to change it up. Hang in there. It's worth it.
Mandybandy31 2 Posted May 8, 2013 I was banded 5/2 and hit a major wall today. Feeling weak, nauseated with continued pain (mainly shoulder but abdominal too). I told my husband I may be withdrawing because I have the shakes! It does help to see others in the same boat! Trying to stay positive.
crafty_lady1971 17 Posted May 8, 2013 I was banded 5/2 and hit a major wall today. Feeling weak, nauseated with continued pain (mainly shoulder but abdominal too). I told my husband I may be withdrawing because I have the shakes! It does help to see others in the same boat! Trying to stay positive. When I was about 5 to 6 days post-op, I started having dry heaves all day, and the shoulder pain was unbearable. I took some gas-x, pain meds, laid down, and put on the heating pad. About an hour later, I felt a lot better. I still had the dry heaves a couple more times which caused my shoulder to hurt, but I just followed the same procedure again. I didn't have any problems the next day, and the shoulder pain's been pretty much gone since. Stay positive. Your body went through a lot, but know that "This too shall pass." cda97 63 Posted May 8, 2013 One day' date=' one hour, one minute at a time. Sounds trite, but it is the way to do it. You can't make it a whole day? Can you make it the next hour? Walking, swearing, shouting, crying, but make it the next hour. You made it the hour? Can you do another one? How about 30 minutes? When you look at 11 days, it seems like an eternity, but when you look at a day, or an hour, then the task becomes more manageable.[/quote'] Just wanted to say thanks again for the support. Your post has really stuck with me. I can do this a little at a time. Minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. I WILL make it. 2 Terry Poperszky and zaknjordansmom reacted to this
Bandedk8y 8 Posted May 9, 2013 I'm there with you. I was banded on Tuesday and have been home for one night. I am to drink my Protein Shakes to get nutrition but can't even sip on them. I have no energy to walk around to get this gas pain gone and just feel crappy. No vomiting but I feel like that could come any moment. I really want to take a shower but I'm afraid of passing out. I keep telling myself this will get better but this is worse than any surgery I have ever had. Can anyone tell us how many days this will last? Also I'm having trouble taking deep breathes. Could that still be some of the gas?
cda97 63 Posted May 9, 2013 Bandedk8y I did start feeling a little better yesterday and doing pretty well this morning. So hopefully a couple days and you will feel better too. I'm still not getting much down but hopefully that will get better soon. I took a shower on day 3 and was very week and shaky. You might want to wait another day or two if you aren't feeling well enough. 2 Bandedk8y and Creekwood reacted to this
DMJ 0340 21 Posted May 9, 2013 I was banded on Friday. Today I am feeling a mix of starvation and sick to my stomach. I do not see how I can make it on full liquids for 11 more days. Any tips on how to survive? I was banded on Thursday-had to stay overnight because I had felt so sick after surgery. Since being home the days have ebbed and flowed. I found hot broth made me feel good, I could only eat(drink) about 3/4 cup, very slowly but really got me through. I have also gone on a couple walks a day, that tires me but also moves the gas around! Hopefully this helps- it will get better! 2 Bandedk8y and Creekwood reacted to this

Could that still be some of the gas? I was banded Monday, I have been lucky to not experience some of these things. BUT, the trouble taking deep breaths is gas. At least my experience has been that. I had the same feeling walked around a while, a huge belch came out and that pressure was relieved. It felt really good, my gas pain was a very nagging type of pain. If you don't feel it's safe to shower yet, then don't. Not worth the risk, unless you have someone home who can help you or at least be on standby just in case. But, I'd just wait. My doc told me to focus on Water at first to not get dehydrated then move to Protein Shakes when ready (hopefully after a few days). I hope you start feeling better and are able to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. I know it has helped me big time! Good luck!! 1 Bandedk8y reacted to this

Could that still be some of the gas? I am right there with you! Today (3 days post op) I'm having a hard time taking deep breaths. There is a "heaviness" in my chest and I'm having a harder time swallowing today than any other day. I'm really hoping it's gas and will be gone tomorrow. I'm still not eating (drinking) very much at all. I'm a little concerned I won't heal as fast without the nutrients from food. Hang in there. Thank goodness for LBT. Just knowing someone else is going through the same thing helps tremendously. 2 Bandedk8y and sp70 reacted to this
sp70 193 Posted May 9, 2013 I also had surgery on Monday. I am a lot more sore than I thought I would be. I like a to hold a pillow across my belly for support as I walk around the house as I feel so bloated. I've taken a few walks outside which has been nice to get some fresh air. Today is the first day that I felt hungry, though a popsicle filled me up too much. Trying to figure out the sipping. Yesterday was the first day I met my Protein requirement thru Protein Shakes. Today the emotions kicked in, what was I thinking, did I do the right thing? 1 drehn88 reacted to this
