Feeling pretty miserable

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Friday. Today I am feeling a mix of starvation and sick to my stomach. I do not see how I can make it on full liquids for 11 more days. Any tips on how to survive?

Thanks for the support. After posting this I had to go to the bathroom and almost vomited:( Feeling really yucky right now and definitely on an emotional roller coaster. I know why I had surgery, I know it will get better but hard to get through this part.

Good luck to you. I hate to put anything negative out there but need to say it at the same time.

The surgery can cause nausea, I'm assuming they did not give you a prescription, call them to get a prescription to get you through this. My doc automatically prescribed a pain and nausea medication for after surgery. As far as the hunger, sorry, but all you can really do is try to drink as much as you can and are allowed to.

I had band replacement surgery 11 days ago and had the same issue for ages. And I don't remember feeling so awful the first time I had my lapband placed so I went to see my dr and it turns out I was having an adverse reaction to my painkillers. I've stopped them now and the nausea has just about disappeared. Just something to think about.

Call your surgeon. I was banded on 4/29. I called to see if I could add something mushy 5 days into post op and he told me to have a very scrambled egg and to eat it slowly. After taking two bites and walking around, just to be sure it was ok I was able to finish it. He said if I could tolerate it that I could have an egg daily. It's really helped. Call your surgeon there might be something that they can add for you if you are looking for something "real" like I was!

Ladies I went through those emotional days as well just a few weeks ago,; so much of this experience plays with our emotions and minds. Yes you can do this!!! Keep telling yourself that better days are ahead, experiment with what you are purree.

I cheated a few times and had some Tomato Soup.

BTW-You do not want to vomit at this stage or any stage with the band or you could have a band slip.

The biggest hurdle is mental. I promise, all of this will be worth it.

Remind yourself that you did not go through a painful and expensive surgery just to sabotage it over one meal. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy real food later on.

Drink plenty of hot tea, go for walks, and check in here when you need the extra support. We have your back.

I really needed to hear this tonight. I am 11 days post-op and my doctor requires 3 weeks of full liquids. It's enough to make a person go crazy... I needed to remind myself that this will all be worth it. Thank you!

One day, one hour, one minute at a time. Sounds trite, but it is the way to do it. You can't make it a whole day? Can you make it the next hour? Walking, swearing, shouting, crying, but make it the next hour. You made it the hour? Can you do another one? How about 30 minutes?

When you look at 11 days, it seems like an eternity, but when you look at a day, or an hour, then the task becomes more manageable.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
