Hi guys... I think aside from the actual surgery, I am most scared about possible scarring. My skin is prone to developing scar tissue pretty easily... Any advice on how I can treat the incisions to avoid permanent scarring? My doctor said he can probably perform the operation via one incision through the naval, but since I have a hiatal hernia that needs fixing, he may have to do multiple incisions.

On my hernia, 3 small openings were made. Very little scars. Best wishes

well, you cant even see my (5 incision marks) and the port is so faint you can barely make it out...i dont think you need to worry about the (scarring aspects) at all...i feel you would have more scarring from scraping your knee or elbow than from lap band surgery.

I have been told my multiple doctors that after post op healing (weeks later) you can apply sesame oil (open capsule and spread on scar) Then point a Laser pointer at the scar for 5 mins daily it will help to reduce the redness.

What does cold laser / soft light therapy actually do?

This is a high intensity light or energy that operates at a specific frequency to increase the blood supply to the area. This is used by the injured cells to facilitate repair of the injured tissue. It does not have any adverse affects on healthy tissue with the exception of the eye. DO NOT EXPOSE LASER POINTERS, OR SIMILAR DEVICES TO THE EYE!!! Application of 4 -5 minutes to the area may require anywhere from 4 to 7 treatments. Cold lasers have been used in Europe for over 20 years, but just in the last few years they have been approved for use in the United States for many different treatments.

Aside from the medications that are out there, my dermatologist had me put vasalene,(I so mis-spelled that) on anytime she would cut or take a sample from my skin and put a couple stitches in it while it was healing. She said it was the best thing to help with scarring. It worked for me, but I'd ask your Dr. first. Now if there already healed the only thing I know is the over the counter meds. I don't know any names. But it doesn't sound like from the other post that there is bad scarring.. I personally don't know I have not been banded yet I have 3 wks. But I have been cut on and the vasalene helped. Best of luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
