First Stuck Episode

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

Well I knew it was coming, I was hoping later than today much later.. So I ended up with this horrible feeling in my chest, followed by sliming, and major saliva. Then it happened.. Now what? I have read so many threads about drinking warm, drinking cold but what works best for you and why?

I will def. be doing liquids the next couple days for sure..

The slimes! I walk and spit a lot and try not to drink anything till it passes. I have such a busy schedule and found myself eating while driving to a meeting and it happened! I thought I was going to die! But really have found I can't attempted to make it pass with more liquid. I pulled over and walked around.

oh the infamous stuck episodes, sorry you got stuck and oh I've had my share. Most times I PB along with the slime and saliva and sometimes I throw up completely. Afterwards I find it for myself better to drink hot tea and yes be on liquids for at least a day. I hope you are better by tomorrow, it does aggravate things in there. hugs

Donna

hot liquids seems to relax the areas and it feels better.

I wouldnt try to drink anything to make it pass though because the liquids wont pass around it. Just try to relax and yes do liquids for the next couple days. It is horrible and hurts like hell.

liquids don't really do the trick during an episode. Walking helps me, once it passes then I drink some Water and go on liquids for the next meal juuust to play it safe!

Yes I agree! My daughter says Mom, here drink something. I have to reject any help and just walk around. Its very true once stuck liquid even saliva almost over flows and comes right back up. Causing mote intense pressure.

I agree with others but I do drink hot tea after I'm stuck or it all comes up, it helps soothe things.

When I got stuck and wanted to get rid of it...I would sip water...the Water will not pass through, only fill the pouch more and then it would all come up....

same reason I was taught not to drink while eating....increases volume too fast causing regurgitation....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
