Hi everyone,

I am exactly two weeks post lap band surgery today. The first week for me was pretty rough, more pain than I prepared myself for. However my 2nd week has been going great..I am enjoying foods and feeling fuller quicker and longer. I have lost 28 lbs since starting the pre surgery diet (so 4 weeks). I have been doing restricted duty at my work...so i am doing office type work. It has not been a problem for me. I haven't had to take any prescription pain meds for 4 or 5 days now.

However today at about 10 am I began experiencing stabbing pain right at my port sight. It is not gas pain, or any type of over eating pain. Its the worst pain I have had since surgery. It feels way worse and more intense than the muscle spasms I had after surgery too. My port is way closer to the surface than what I thought it would be but the site is not swollen, red, or oozing. Nothing makes the pain worse or better and it isn't constant but when the stabbing pain comes I feel nauseous and get sweaty. At one point I thought I would pass out.

Has anybody else had this? I did call my dr's office but he is gone and so is his NP. I spoke to the nurse who said I should go to the ER. I did end up leaving work and took a valium when I got home...it's been 30 mins and so far no relief.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this or has any suggestions? I just put an ice pack on hoping that will help.

Thanks for any help!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
