Yes, I also feel a second opinion is needed! It never hurts to get a second. Good luck and I hope you feel better. Shawn

A second opinion might be the best thing you can do for yourself! This is just too much to tolerate. And it doesn't matter if the doc's a nice person...trade that in for one that follows up on this! I can't believe he wasn't concerned enough to do a swab/culture...

Let us know how you're doing~

Hello everyone! I feel like I have been beaten and thrown out to the dogs! I am in so much pain I barley can walk... dont even ask how I sit down and stand up... and the bathroom UGH!!! I think this hurts worse then my orignal band surgery.

I go in tomorrow to see my PCP he cant really do anything but maybe he can give me some pain meds. I called Dr. in Phoenix, AZ Dr. Terry Simpson. his web page looked really good and he seems very caring for his patients. I guess tomorrow I will call Dr. Frezza in Lubbock TX I know he has done a lot of surgeries mostly RNY though. We will see.

I am just trying to survive each day. I still want my band though... I am not ready to give up! I never even had a chance to use it like I should. I just hope its not to late.

Aww Trish I am so sorry for everything you are going through. I really am pissed at how that doc mistreated your issues. Makes me wanna throw Zoe's Boot at him.

Hello, He didn't even give you pain meds. YOU HAVE A GAPING HOLE IN YOUR BELLY. What a piece of work.

Opps... No he gave me pain meds.. but they are gone.. and I am still in pain!!! I only take them at night to help me sleep because I can only sleep on my right side with a pillow holding my tummy up so it wont pull on my hole. and I take them if I am so much pain I start grinding my teeth. Yes grinding of teeth with me is a sure sign of 7-8 level pain.

Penni I forgot about Zoe's boot but boy would it come in handy right about now wouldnt it LOL

Trish,

Im glad you added your problems to your signature line. Everytime I check on this thread, there's others that are reading it. A lot of people dont know what to say.

I -on the other hand- ALWAYS talk too much, and have waaay more to say then what people want to hear. sorry.

What about putting the word out on LBT about the 2 doctors you mentioned above. You need feedback - fast! Ask if anyone has used these MD's before and what's their opinions of them.

Girl, you need medical attention. Being in this level of pain is serious. ESPECIALLY now that its over a week and you arent any better. Are you having fever as well?

This is not good. Not good at all.

Have you checked air prices to get to Penni's doctor? I know its kinda far, but at this point its an option.

Im worried about you Trish. Im more worried about YOU then Ive ever been about any other bandster that has developed problems.

Please get the proper medical attention needed - quickly!

Trish,

I'm really sorry to hear of all this trouble you're having to endure. I can't imagine your suffering, although I've had my share of issues. Nothing compares with the frustration and concern you must have. Unfortunately, I've not been able to read this post from the beginning and I don't want to start beating up your doctor if I don't know the whole story, but here's my thought. Three strikes and you're out!! It appears you've had surgery to replace a leaky PORT?? Then, tubing leak? Now they've taken the port out and you have a hole to pack?? Please update me, if I'm wrong. What is your doctor's take on this. Does he seem to think this type of problem is common? Is he becoming indifferent towards you?

Not sure what type of insurance you have, but when I had UHC HMO, my pcp got on the phone and FOUND me a doctor who would take care of me, here in Dallas. They spent an entire day, doing the legwork for me. PPO would be different.

Have you contaced any doctors in the DFW area? I know it's so far. However, there are many very experienced Dr's here who have been taking care of banded folks much longer than some of the outlying areas. Dr Benavides comes to mind, Dr Hamn and Cribbins won't touch anyone who was banded by another surgeon. Dr Veninga may. Dr Provost is ILuvHarley's doc, not sure about his take on this type of thing.

I'll be thinking about this and I'll try to go back and read the whole thread, but in the meantime. IF you were able to get some of these to see you, I would be more than happy to do anything I could, such as picking you up at the airport, driving you to the Dr office, you could even stay at my house to help out with your expenses, but YES, my thoughts are, if your current doc is NOT aggressively following this, you need to get thee to another doctor, pronto!!

God bless you girl, and God bless Paula for messaging me and asking me to come see. Ain't she a keeper?? :pray2: Keep your chin up, but please stay on top of this. I'm very concerned about infection here which can effect your entire band and body.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
