Totally confused about my lapband

Ok. I'm a little confused and I just need a little clarity. I'm not sure if I'm at my sweet spot. 6.3cc in a 10.cc band. I eat less but can still eat more then a cup (I was told by my Dr I should only be eating a cup). Question 1: If I can still eat more then a cup of food before I feel satisfied, then is the reason food is getting stuck because I'm not chewing good enough and taking too big of bites? Question 2: was question 1 a dumb question? I would like to know what you veterans are eating morning to night. I am really trying hard to work this lapband and I'm not doing it right. I've researched tons but I work better with first hand information from someone who's been there.

I'm feeling full longer but still get hungry frequently. Question 3: If lapband is more for suppressing hunger and not restriction then I'm probably not at my sweet spot am I? For you, how did you know when you hit your sweet spot?

Question 4: what foods should I avoid (sliders) and what should I eat more of.

I was banded 1-25-13.

I'm 5'7

Beginning weight 264

Current weight 255

I would love any and all input! I used to love my first chin so much that I went and got me another one, but now I'm ready for these chins to leave. I need to free this skinny girl inside me. Thank you!

Have you called your dietitian? I try to have a large salad about 1-2 hours before dinner to make sure I get on veggies. I hate them. I take my time chewing and it takes me 45 minutes to eat. Right now it is 3:30 pm. and I have only had a shake around 11:30 and I am hungry. Normally I would have had something to eat by now but I am waiting at the doctors with MIL. I love. fruit for a snack or Protein bars are great. My dietitian told me to buy ones with 20g of Protein.

1. Most likely you aren't taking small bites and chewing enough. It's one of the most difficult things for new bandsters to do.

2. No. I eat a normal diet of most everything but junk and fast food. I just eat less of it. I eat a lot of salads, veggies, salmon, chicken, low fat hamburger etc. I had some tater tots over the weekend with some onion rings too. Yuck. Why did I ever like those foods. My taste buds have done a 180 degree change. The crappy foods I once loved, I now detest. I love eating healthy and that's a first for me.

3. I knew when I could eat and be satisfied for 3-4 hours. I still eat a small snack twice a day but it's usually a cheese stick, apple, fruit, pickle or costco small bag of jerkey. I kept getting stuck though and had some taken out. My mistake. I now know I wasn't eating small enough or chewing enough. That was 8 months post surgery.

4. Eat real food. Real chicken, not chicken nuggets, Cook a slab of salmon. Eat vegetables, steamed or raw. Don't eat processed foods like white bleach flours or refined sugar or even large fruit juices. Don't eat chips, crackers, fast food. But don't kick yourself if you cheat every now and then. The world and your future won't change if you fall off the wagon here and there.

I'm glad I read this thread and I'm 10 and half months out and still learning how to chew and take bites. Thanks 2much for your input I needed that!!!!! Yesterday I was sooooo craving a hamburger and so what did I do, I went thru a drive thru at Wendy's and got a Jr cheeseburger, I knew better, I know, don't chastize me, anyway, got home to eat it and about 1/3 in got stuck BIG time, I knew better with the bun and all, anyway, ended up puking my guts up which was not good for my band and I know this but ate it anyway. No more junk food for me!!!!!!!!!!! After getting sick I drank hot tea and then was on liquids for 24 hrs. Getting a fill tomorrow.

Donna,

I've been craving a Memphis Burger from Carl's for months now. I decided to treat myself and went in to buy one. They don't make them anymore they said. I walked out without buying anything. I was proud of myself.

So, I googled the ingredients and made myself one at home. A little too many calories but I accomplished my goal and now I'm fine for another 6 months. No guilt, I knew what I was doing.

Are you on My Fitness Pal? There are quite a few bandsters that track their food so maybe you can get an idea of daily meals. I track everything I eat- feel free to add me. Txin1

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
