I'll be banded in 5 Days and my anxiety is in overdrive. I wakeup thinking about surgery, i keep watchin YouTube videos of the procedure. Then I begin to think... Hey you've lost 50lbs in 6months, do you REALLY need the band.... I already know the answer.. YES I DO. How can I ease my nerves & my mind to help me realize this is going to be the BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE....?

If you've lost 50lbs in 6 months, just think of what you can do with a tool to help you out. You've done a great job so far and you will continue to do so after your surgery.

it was the best decision I've ever made for myself and for my health. I feel great even tho I've got more to lose. I know you are nervous and that's normal but when surgery day came for me I wasn't, I went in there happy and thought of it as a new birthday and a new life beginning. Here I am 10 and half months post op and doing things I never thought I could do. Wearing smaller clothes, eating healthy so yes it's worth it. Just breathe. It'll be here before you know it.

Just got banded yesterday. First surgery ever. I was really scared too. Just do it. My surgery was fast. I went to OR at around 9am, woke up at 10:30 and was walking around right away. Today is probably going to be the worst day because you are still getting used to the incisions and the pain needs from the hospital are wearing off. Just walk around a lot and do your breathing exercise they want you to do. If you stay getting pain in your shoulders just get up and walk around. Most of all don't stress over it and remember what you are doing it for. The surgery was scary sounding until they knock you out. Lol. Nothing to worry about though.

A bit of anxiety is normal but as everyone said above.....we all come out on the other side wondering why we were so worried. Keep your thoughts positive and try not to freak yourself out!

Good luck!

I think it's totally normal. You've come this far, don't look back. The night before my surgery, I had a complete meltdown- sat my kids down and told them what to do in case I died and showed them where I keep all my important papers. They had a good laugh, but it made me feel better. Hang in there! :)

I know how you feel. My surgery is the 6th, went in for my preop appt yesterday and started a 5 day liquid diet today. I'm getting a bit nervous as well, and I've had other surgeries and know what to expect. It's hard to believe after "fighting" to get this for the last 6 months, it's almost here! Just trying to keep myself busy. Glad I work this weekend! Hang in there, you can do this! It will be so worth it!

remember when you get home the weight doesn't stsart falling off you have plenty to do while healing then you will need (probably) get a fill in 6 wks and then it starts. many think the band losses the weight but no you do and this takes time... I need 3 fills to get into the green zone but I learned a lot in how to work with the band.

Yes...you've lost 50 on your own, I've lost 60 on my own two years ago but the moment I stopped doing what it took to lose it (phentermine, Water, Water, water, exercise, more pills) I started to gain it back. Here I am two years later and I've found 52 of those pounds back.

Go through with the surgery, if you could manage long term weight loss on your own you would have done that by now. Don't worry about it, you have made the right decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
