Random rant:

Well...I think I've brought this on myself. I've always been the type of person who makes up their mind about something (after mulling it over forever) and then I want it done, immediately! Well, my journey just started on April 11th and I've obsessed over timelines since then. After reading many of your posts, I see where people are meeting with their surgeons and having regular interactions with their WL centers. I'm going through True Results and while I got all of my requirements out of the way in just 2 short days (is that a record?), I think I expected the rest of the process to go just as quickly and as smoothly. Again...it hasn't even been a month yet, but I feel like I am turning into a psycho. I called last week and they gave me a tentative date of May 17th - cool, I've scheduled my vacation from work (I can always change it) and prepared my loved ones for the big day. Well, after speaking with TR I found out my file is being sent to their corporate office today and from there it will go to BCBS for the final approval. When I asked if my tentative date was still good...my counselor said "not likely". Bummer!

Anyway, I've decided to stop obsessing and to just continue to enjoy the foods and eating the way I want to until I'm told to start my preop diet. I should be happy to have a couple more weeks of pigging out, but just the opposite is true. I really want to get the surgery out of the way, so my healing time doesn't interfere with my fun time with my daughter and her buddies. We love Schlitterbahn Water Park and have our season tickets, I just hope my recovery doesn't take away too much of our play time.

Well as far as the "Pigging Out" goes, you can always start your journey even now. Get yourself in the habit of eating the right things in the right portions so it's not as much of a shock to you when you start on your band. Try drinking 64oz of Water every day to start. Then gradually reduce your portion sizes to about 1-1½C.

It's never too early to start your journey.

First of all congratulations on deciding to get the band :)

For most people this will only work if you make a lifestyle change, I got the band but my husband din't and he has lost over 20 lbs. and my kids have even lost a little because we've changed our lifestyle habits. the last thing I want is for this to be another diet where i lose quickly and then put all the weight back on. we started eating right weeks before my surgery and never have regretted it.

Everyone has to do whats best for them, you'll do great Good Luck!

LOL You sound like me patiently impatiently waiting for your date.. Mine took a good 4 months before i went in for my band.. .. it will come quickly you will see ... As for the food.. I enjoyed the foods i loved and in the long run because i didn't "pig" out or deprive myself i made the more healthy choices .. i did join WW a year before i made my decision to get the band so having the support of them helped a lot as well... Good luck in your journey!

keep calling your insurance company to see if your covered and how long will it take to get approved and anything else you can think to ask them. then call them weekly as well as the surgeons office (sweeky wheel and all that)my regular doctor and I knew befor the sergeons office knew so it pays off. Do not pig out start on a diet plan that has worked before and get a head start I used WW as my plan ...good luck and i hope it goes fast for you.be sure to ask your insurance company how long after the surgery do they cover I found out yesterday some only cover 3 mos but self paid people got 13 mos no extra cost...so I am now on my own and it is $150 a visit to get a fill I need a special fund for the feature instead of o xmas fund lol plan ahead it pays

I had to do a 6 month supervised diet with my dietician and Dr for my ins to approve it. Now I'm getting my surgery date tomorrow :)

Start now, the little things help. Small bites, chewing you bites at least 30 times before swallowing, making a meal last at least 30 min, not drinking 30min before or after a meal.

These little things will make the transition easier.

GOOD LUCK!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
