I go in tomorrow at 10 am for an EGD, I dont know why this stresses me out so badly. I think it's finally hitting me that 'hey, your surgery is now right around the corner'.

Has anyone else had to have an EGD?

I cant sleep I'm so nervous!

No, what is an EGD? I had an EKG but I have never heard of that.

I had a battery of tests.. EKG, bloodwork, chest xray, upper gi, and pulmonary function... but never heard of a EGD? Everyone gets nervous , just remember you are doing something for your health and take it one day at a time... once I decided to get the band , I was ready ... the night before my surgery I did take a sleeping aid so I wouldn't be stressed and tired... it helped.. Good Luck ...

ekg?

if its what i am thinking, they hook you to moniters to listen to your heart...in my opinion it took look to hook and then unhook me then the entire testing time..

An egd is the scope of your upper gi tract. I had one too. It's really nothing. They knock you out and it feels like you wake up a few minutes later. There was no pain or anything other than the air they put in your belly. It's not a big deal at all. You'll be fine!

I had one and it was mostly painless other than a sore throat afterwards. I was clamping my jaws down so hard on the piece in my mouth they had to wake me up to get it out because I wouldn't let go of it with my teeth! :D

I've had two before even considering getting banded.

They are really no big deal. Also had a colonoscopy, which is no big deal either, other than prep.

Well I did the Edg, yes the scope that goes down the throat. Everything looked good and so the surgery is a go. The only thing they found was a very small heital hernia. So I call the Dr tomorrow so we can set up the surgery date :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
