Waiting game...

Hey everyone I know all insurance companies are different... But how long does it usually take to hear an answer? Should I call my surgeons office and ask them how it is going along? So confused and anxious and hopefully excited!!!

I'm in the same boat as you are. My first doctors appt. was April 11, 2013 - BCBS required a psych evaluation, which I completed on April 13. After speaking with BCBS, I was told that it only takes about 48 hours to get an answer once the file has been received by their reviewers. To date, that has not happened yet. I am working with True Results and according to them, my file is currently "in review". I have a tentative surgery date of May 17, 2013. All insurance companies are required to tell you that it could take up to 45 days to receive an answer, but rarely does it take more than a couple of weeks.

Good luck!

Thank you for that info I had no idea about the 45 days! I had my first consult 3-27-13 and have done all pre-op stuff... And was on WW for over a year.. Ugh but who knows

Good Luck to you also!!

Once all my pre requirements were done they submitted it to insurance it took 4 weeks before we heard back. Of course, they wanted a letter from my doctor which took me 3 weeks to get and then once it was resubmitted it took another 3 weeks. The waiting, wondering and hoping was awful! I was in frequent contact with the coordinator, felt like I was pestering her, but she said it was ok. All insurance companies are so diffrent, some I've heard have gotten approval in a couple of days. In the mean time, it's hard to stay distracted! Good luck.

The waiting stinks!!! I have been calling my insurance almost daily checking on an update. It's day 17 since my case was opened and they have up to 30. I have 5 comorbities listed in the letter from my pcp- all documentation was sent- if my Bmi was 40 I feel like I would be getting a quicker answer. Right now it's 36. Geesh- hurry up already!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
