I've talked to my dr about my options in taking control of my weight and dealing with PCOS!

I'm wanting to know and seek answers here, with support as well!

How long does it take from first meeting to getting the surgery? What am I in for?!

Hey Blue! Welcome to the site and you will find most of all the answers here!

It took me about 3 months to get my surgery date after all the appointments and stuff. I have surgery on May 21st. You will have to go through a whole process of appointments before your surgery depending on what your doctor requires before they send all your medical info for your insurance for approval. It could be a quick or long process.

Good luck!!

Welcome!

It all depends on whether you're self pay or insurance paid. If you're insurance paid, it depends on their requirements. Some require doctor supervised diets up to 6 months before and some do not. It also depends on your surgeon.

I was lucky, it was less than a month from my first doctor's visit to my surgery date.

I do have PCOS! And it's been a nightmare for me since I discovered that I was sick 10 years ago. I gained 60 pounds out of nowhere, I started to crave carbs, and went to the Oby and discovered my PCOS. Usually it comes with insuline resistance and metabolic syndrome, so it's really hard to loose weight. I started to have facial hair, skin rushes, and I was on metformine and birth control (to level you hormones) for years, but I never could maintain my weight loss. I gained other 20 pounds over the 60 already had. This is the first time in 10 years that I'm into the obese category (< 30 BMI), and I knew this was not getting any better. That's why I decided to give the lapband a try. I just want to be healthy again, be able to have a family (with my PCOS and my weight right now would be impossible) and just stop feeling so bad about trying hard to loss weight and not to eat bad foods, knowing that my weight loss is only momentary. sometimes I feel riding a rollercoaster! And not really a fun one :(

I will have my lapband on May 10th, and I'm just do happy to get my hope back!

Lolarose-

Thank you for your response. I hope your surgery when well!

I just moved to AZ so, I have to start the process all over again!! Not exciting and the insurance I have now (united health care) might not cover me because I'm just shy of 40 lbs and I'm technically too healthy.

I have a dr's apt tomorrow so, we will see how that goes!

Cross your fingers for me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
