What the Hell??

Look at this article and tell me what's wrong with this picture!

http://www.mygastricbypassguide.com/lap-banding/a32.html

From the article:

"Lap Band surgery comes in distinct aspects but the most desired are combination methods that reduce the stomach by stapling off a little section and reducing in length the small intestine by reattaching it at a lower point at which less calories could be absorbed."

"As in any surgery for weight loss, potential candidates should recollect that Lap band gastric bypass surgery is not a miracle cure and could involve a 90-minute to two hour surgical procedure, a three to six wk recovery period, and a lifelong commitment to a better lifestyle."

How can they do that? Or am I just being a dink and reading it wrong? Someone tell me I am!

Geesh!

So basically they are stating that since GB can be done laprascopically it reduces some great risks that were common with GB in the past, there by bringing the risks "closer" to the risks of the Lap-Band, and in that situation they are stating that GB is a better option.

In some ways, for weight loss, GB is better. you starve yourself, no matter what, and lose the weight due to malnutrition. you don't have to think about your diet like we do in some aspects. some doctors see this as a better choice for people who are dangerously close to dying due to their weight.

i still think that lap-band is better than gb, but you do have to work it.

Photo, this was clearly written by non-native English speakers. It's just laughably imprecise language, and no, you are not a dink.

What sort of site is this?

Yeah... that's weird. Maybe it's a case of people thinking "lap" and "lapband" are the same thing. I dunno... I'd email them and ask what the hell they're talking about... if I wasn't so lazy.

Funny Duddies, I think you missed the fact that they aren't saying the GB can be done laparoscopically, but they're describing the lapband in the exact way you'd describe a bypass (cutting, reattaching, stapling).. and then saying "Lap band Gastric Bypass"? wtf is that?

I am pretty sure they made a mistake. In the previous paragraph, they are talking about Laporoscopic Gastric Bypass. In the sentence AFTER the one you are referring to, they say that patients may not be able to digest certain types of foods which is consistent with Gastric Bypass. I think the word Lap Band was supposed to be the word Laproscopic. If you read it that way, the sentence makes sense.

Looks like a pretty lame website to me. You can't understand anything they're talking about!!!!

I do knw that there is a GP operation that includes a non-adjustable band. Banded Gastroplasty? maybe? That might explain some of the confusion. hmmmm

I'm with Kathy - my first thought was of the GB with fobi ring. Where did you find this crack-pot website? Alex is right - it sounds like it was translated into about three different languages before it reached this page. And what's with the picture of the woman on the cordless phone and the hospital bed? Weird.
