I have never been much of a binge eater however, I do have my issues with cake and ice cream, for some reason I can't let it go. I haven't really eaten it much since the surgery only at birthday party and Easter but I had a piece yesterday and today. Throwing it in the trash immediately. I have a question for all of my fellow banders out there. I am having a huge problem with Portion Control. My doctor says only eat a quarter cup of food, I can't even imagine eating only a quarter cup of food. On a regular I eat about 2 cups of food, I know this is really bad. The other day for the first time I ate a whole 6 inch. Subway sandwich, what is wrong with me. HELP! I just know I have stretched my pouch. :-(

I am still losing weight however I don't think it's because of the band I think it is because I work my butt off in the gym.

Have you thought about seeing a counselor I know they can be expensive maybe someone can help you break this habit. Sorry you are going through this. I myself was never was an ice cream eater until my band. WOW! That stuff is addicting. Besides just enjoying these certain foods, maybe there is an underlying issue. Hope I am not out of line, just a suggestion if nothing else is working. Believe me, you are not the only one going through this. Many people struggle with letting go of their favorite comfort foods. It is very hard...there is nothing wrong with you. We all love to eat and thats that! Maybe when you want something not on the menu wear a band around your wrist and snap it to remind yourself how far you have come and what you did to get where you are at! Hope that helps a bit....keep us posted.

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with you, but maybe you need a fill or to speak with your doctor. How long are you staying satisfied in between meals? I find logging my food and sharing the reports with my doctor are helpful for them as well as holding myself accountable for everything I put in my mouth. Hang in there!

I like the counselor idea. You have to change your eating habits. You have to WANT to change to make this work for you! No one ever said it would easy. The band cannot do it alone!

I agree with the others, I would seek a counselor. By chronically over eating, you're putting yourself at risk for not only a stretched pouch but a slip. A counselor can help you figure out not only why it's so hard for you but how to regain control.

You can do this but you might need a little help to get there. Get the help- you deserve it and the success that comes with it.

Best wishes.

I can not imagine eating 1/4 cup of food. I eat 1/2 cup. Are you sure doctor did not mean 1/4 cup Protein? I would really get back in touch with doctor as well as the doctor's nutirtionist.

yup yup yup, seeing a nutritionist who can explain the better types of foods to eat and maybe help you understand the amounts..some doctors are different although eating 1/4 cup seems small, you may want to confirm with your doctor..

grammy was right, all about if you want to lose weight and get healthy or not.. there is nothing wrong with you...you choose to eat junk/easy/slider foods....you have to make up your mind to choose to eat better foods and the amounts that is required. for the band to work, you must help the band.

good for you for exercising...you just need to eat to lose weight...no food is off limits and when its my birthday in nov, i hope to have a bit of cake but for now, its all lean Proteins, veggies and fruit and drinking alot.....and a bunch of want power.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
