4 1/2 months post-op and no fill

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery mid-December so four and half months ago and I have never been to a post-op appointment and in turn have not gotten a fill. There are really no excuses why I have not gone but life has taken over with three kids. My question is I have still lost 40lbs and continue to lose. It is still a struggle for me to meet my daily calorie count. I currently do not have any ccs in my band since I needed to have them removed after surgery from dehydration so if I had ccs put in how would I ever eat enough to stay healthy. Am I not understanding how this works?

Not everyone has to have a fill to have the band help them lose weight and it sounds like you are one of the lucky one. On the other you had surgery and never went back for a post-op appointment? I would suggest that is a mistake, the after care of the band is as important as the band itself. IMHO

BTW, filling in your profile helps when you ask questions. Good luck on your continued journey.

i agree with T as going to the dr (post op) on a regular basis is vital..this will help the dr (in turn) help you and answer any/all questions you have..you have done well on your loss so far....congrats.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far, but as the others have said, it is essential that you keep your appointments whether u need fills or not. Taking care of the band is your responsibility, any complications and you could end up having to have it removed. You probably were too tight with a small fill post surgery due to the general swelling post op, it is common for people to feel tight after surgery if they have a fill when the band is put in. Now u have lost weight it is a natural progression that the band may get looser due to the reduction of fat around your stomach.

I agree with every one else not to mention for me it is very important to be accountable to someone other then yourself. I stopped going to doctor also and didnt keep to the plan. When I did go back I hade to pay more because they would not fill be without a flouro to make sure my band is ok. Now that I am back on track they are able to just fill me in an office visit which is much cheaper.

Great weightloss, but please see your surgeon. As others said it is important!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
