Hiatal Hernia!! WHAAAA???

Recommended Posts

Well, I went to my PCP to get the last of my blood work and my sugery clearance from him and my Upper GI tests were back.

Come to find out I have a Hiatal Hernia. :faint:

I have never had any symptoms :grouphug:

Aint that just enought to make a saint cuss?

I looked up some threads and see that for most people, they get it fixed while they get the band put in.

So, have any of you all had any problems with a hernia?

Wow! Now that's a trip! I have some killer acid reflux, but my endoscopy was completely normal.

Believe it or not, hiatal hernias are common in obese people and many have no signs or symptoms of the condition. Like you, mine (very mild) was diagnosed on endoscopy. I never took any medications and it was repaired during lapband surgery.

I know, meanwhile, my poor hubby has been suffering with chest pains and nausia for months now. (no heart issues, he has a nuclear imaging stress test that came up normal.)

He has to go Monday for a scope. I hope they see what the issue is for him. He is miserable

Dang wavy, keep us posted about hubby. I don't know much about hiatal hernia's, except that they can usually be repaired during band surgery. Dr B will be able to take great care of you. No worries! Just a bump in the road!

My husband has a hiatal hernia and it really bugs him but I think it is really bad. He isnt a candidate for the Lapband at all. He has a bunch of scar tissue and the doctor doesnt want him to be touched anymore. Said if he doesnt need a surgery then dont have it unless necessary. I am sure Dr. B can take care of this with no problem. He did my lapband and my gallbladder surgery. Not at the same time they were six months apart.

Oh wow, I'm sure dr. Bauman can fix you right up. See getting ready for surgery you have discovered something that was wrong you didn't even know...kinda like my h pylori that could have caused me ulcers, but was found before that happen.

Nah already knew you were crazy! LOL

Karah said today, that she would give up getting a swing set to go to carowinds this summer. LOL, not that Dad has agreed to a swing set, but I thought that was sweet anyway.

Wavydaby,

I am having my surgery May 9. I also have a fairly large Hiatal Hernia and my surgeon plans to repair it at the same time I get my band on. It will take me a few days to recover, but if you send me a reminder I will let you know how it goes. I'm not to thrilled about the Hernia either because my doc says it will mean a longer recovery time. They say the smaller the hernia the better. I never had any symptoms either.

I have no symptoms, but a trip to my pcp brought out the possiblity of a hernia for me as well. i have no pain, no problems, except for an inability to suck in my stomach as much as before. my pcp says that if it is there it can be repaired during the lap band surgery.

Just from my experience. I had a hiatal hernia repaired on my second banding surgery (it's been speculated that had I fixed it on the first, I may not have had to have the second.. go figure). I absolutely was unaware of anything 'different' from the first surgery as far as recovery time, pain, etc. Don't fret, but be glad you get it taken care of on the first go-round! :grouphug: Good luck to you!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
