Received Approval Yesterday!

Recommended Posts

Well, I received my insurance approval yesterday! Surgery set for Monday, yikes!!! Definitely getting nervous. I'm wondering how I'll be afterward the surgery, if I'll be spending the night or going home. The surgeon told me that my insurance pays for the overnight so if I prefer to stay over I can, otherwise if all goes well I can go home the sameday. Nerves are setting in!!!

congrats and welcome to the beginning of a healthier life. as far as spending the night....do it. you don't get any sleep whether in the hospital or home but at least in the hospital, the staff is keeping an eye on you and providing you with the pain meds you need. I stayed overnight and felt much more at ease than if I had gone home.

Thanks! I was thinking that staying the night might be benefical! I'm having a hard time imagining I can walk out to the car afterwards!

I am just starting my journey. I have a consultation set up for Tues. and they have told me my insurance has approved. I know I will find out all the details Tuesday but I'm curious to know if everybody has to do the six month medically supervised weight loss before doing the surgery? Good luck and wishing you the best on your journey.

Newbie- that all depends on your insurance. I did not. Mine required a 3 month follow up with my surgeon-I had to meet with him for 3 months in a row and then had all the other doctor visits and stuff to get done.

So do you mean 3 month follow up with your surgeon before surgery?

Thanks so much for info!

Congrats! My surgeon had said he likes to have people stay overnight to make sure things are ok before sending them home. I think I would stay if I had the option though. Keep us updated!

Congrats on the approval. As for staying overnight, do it. If your insurance is paying for it, it cannot hurt. As a previous poster mentioned, you won't get much sleep anyway, but at least you will be monitored.

And think of your caregiver, whomever that may be. It gave my wife a break after a long day in the hospital with me. She needed the break after worrying about me all day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
