Hi all,

I've been lurking around for a while now. I found this board doing research about lap band and even cancelled an appointment with a surgeon based on reviews here. Thanks so much for all the info!

Made my first appointment for consultation at True Results for next month, no days off between now and then. I've already got confirmation from my insurance for coverage, Aetna, so when I go for my appointment they will be able to tell me what the time line looks like as well as what my out of pocket will be.

I'm terribly nervous, but excited as well!

Thanks to everyone for your honesty and all the tips and info. You've helped me make up my mind and go for it!

Welcome to LBT and Good Luck!!! I am also going through True Results (Houston) and they have made the process incredibly simple. The only problem I have is with my own lack of patience. Now I have a tentative date, I should be a little less neurotic!

Hi. I have been seriously thinking about surgery to lose weight, but I gotta tell ya, I am scared to death. How did you talk to your Dr.? I mean, how did you approach the subject of surgery? I'm asking you because I see you are just starting out. Thanks!

@hmmrgrl

I actually know a few people who have had one type of barriatric surgery or another. With the exception of 1 person all would do it again. The 1 person has gained a lot of her weight back and is having medical issues. She eats a lot of junk though and doesn't exercise at all.

I also did a LOT of research before I made a decision and also talked about it with my husband and my mom. I read everything I could find and lurked in a lot of chat rooms and message boards reading what actual patients have said after their surgery.

This message board has a wealth of information.

I also researched doctors in my area including patient reviews.

I don't need a referral from my doc with my insurance so I just made an appointment, but just be honest with your doctor and talk about it. Explain how you feel and why. Doctors are supposed to be on YOUR side so if yours isn't maybe a new doc is in order.

I'm terrified believe me, but I want to be healthy and look good more! Good luck and keep us updated!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
