I really miss diet soda!

Recommended Posts

I chew gum almost all the time except when I am at the gym. I do not believe if you swallow your gum you absolutely are going to need surgery. I have chronic dry mouth which is extremely extremely painful. It even affects my glands and throat. The only thing that helps me is gum with xylitol. I chew mentos and it really is not very sticky does not even stick to my teeth. This is per my dentsy and my band nurse knows and has never told me to stop. I wouldn't anyway.

I think the gum, soda and drinking while eating rules are there because we all have a tendency to do things orally to the excess. All of it in moderation should be fine but we all got here by not shoving stuff in our pieholes moderately. Obviously, most of us are intelligent adults but it doesn't take long on this site to see how some might abuse the gum, soda and drinking rules?

I promise as a Diet Coke a holic - it does get easier to let it go. I didn't cold turkey it, but I severly cut back and found a nice iced tea that tastes great with some splenda or sweet n low and then only allowed myself say one diet coke a week. Then I just sort of forgot about it. I'm not saying I never ever have some because I do. But it really does cause a ton of gas and it doesn't taste the same after banding at all to me. It's just not really worth the pain anymore. I only ever have it now usually at the movie theatre and I always share it with my boyfriend. He usually drinks it all before I can do any damage.

Set a realistic goal, and then decrease. You'll do great!

What really helped me was the realization of how addicting it is. When I stopped drinking it, it would call to me. I would pick one out of the refrigerated case at a store and not even realize it was in my hand. If I did anything that made me a little sweaty my brain would focus on a diet coke to cool down. It looked exactly like quitting smoking and that scared me. I swore I would never drink it again. After about a year I tried one and it was disgusting. It tastes like peppered licorish. It gets easier but it is 100% addictive, so it's hard to quit.

I've been wondering about the whole carbonated drink thing. I got a SodaStream for Christmas and love using it. I haven't had a carbonated drink for over a month, but was wondering if I made one, and let it sit for a little while to let the bubbles die down if it would cause any problems. I guess like anything else that it's different for different people. I may have to try a few sips to see if I have any problems, but I'm going to wait until I'm on full foods first. I'm only two weeks post-op right now, so I'm careful with everything for the moment.

I've quit before and didn't crave it but then I ended up going back to it and I'm more addicted to diet coke now than ever before! I just got approved for the band this week so I'm kind of having everything I know I won't be able to have once I start the pre-op diet and get the band and that's probably bad but it's working for me! I'm realizing that I don't even like the bad food (especially fast food) once I order it and am eating it but for some reason when I'm hungry I always want that first. Now when I'm hungry I'm actually thinking about what food I'm wanting and remembering that I don't even really like it when I get it! Soda is another story though...I'll just have to quit cold turkey! It is pretty scary hearing that it's as addictive as smoking and I definitely believe it!

In my opinion carbonated drinks is one of the most important thing to quitin te beginning. Your doctor might let you have some later, but you need to heal first. Please do not start this journey putting your band at risk. It is the absolute wrong way to start.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
