Well guys after all that I went thru bc of this diabetes it continues to haunt me. I won't know for sure if I can get his surgery till Friday when im scheduled for wednesday. sugar levels were horrible at pre-testing brought them down about 80 points- going back to my doctor Friday to get tested again- I'm on liquids now- no cigs- I think if I get denied on Friday- I won't be doing this surgery 6 months of this, I'm exhausted. I pray that my sugars go down with this liquid diet :( one can only hope right? :/

Wow I'm so incredibly sorry.

Be careful with your liquids between now and Friday. I'd stay away from juice or anything sugary.

Can I ask how high your sugar is running and how low do you need it to be to safely have surgery?

I really, really hope this works for you because I am guessing the band and weight loss would help you so much.

My sugar was at 327 on pre testing it has never been that high, when I went on Saturday it was 243. My doctor said if I get it between 175-215, then we will be fine. :/

I had diabetes too but my sugar was not quite that high.. I did Protein drinks.. sugar free, like muscle milk and GNC lean shakes.. are you on insulin or oral medication... ? I will pray that you are able to get your surgery.. my sugar is running less than 100 now and I am off of all meds.. I have only lost 33 lbs but it makes so much difference in the way I am eating. protein , veggies and small amt of carbs.. but nothing with much sugar.. keep us posted.. we are all pulling for you...

I'm on oral medication now; I'm on Medifast right now; but due to financial situation switching to whey protein I got the ok from my nutritionist and I can do muscle milk light- I'm gonna try my hardest, I checked my sugar after eating all day a couple of hours ago it was at 200- which I feel Is good- due to the fact it was much higher when I was fasting then after I ate! So cross your fingers guys!!! :)

Stress can raise your blood glucose levels. FYI.

Great this has gotten me beyond stress too :/

I'm surprised that the doctor didn't put you on a sliding scale, which insulin injections for a week or few days before surgery and after so that your sugars can come down. I would call your doctor and ask about a sliding scale. Good Luck!!!

I don't think they want to out insulin; they want to see if I can lower it on my own without havin to go to that extreme- I have an appt Friday to see if its lowered if Friday is a no go- I decided I'm not having this sx I'm gonna take it as a sign and see how I manage.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
