Hello, everyone

Patiently waiting on the call to see if I'm approved. While waiting I've been going back and forth in my thoughts whether I should even get banded. I'm sure it's just a nerves but I wanted to share and see if anyone else has experience this?

I'm hoping this is normal- I have been on the preop diet for a week now and have lost 3 pounds- 10 pounds since I started this journey back in October. I know that without help I will never be able to lose it and keep it off- but it sure makes you wonder. I have been up an down ith my weight my entire life- I lose some and then I gain more back than I lost. I am grateful for supportive family an friends that keep telling me I can do it. I have had one who said see you can do this on your own- I know from past expeiences that I can't, but it sure makes you have an internal debate!

I don't recall vacillating back and forth before surgery simply because I knew the WLS was my only option to get healthy again. I knew for a fact that dieting wouldn't work so this was my only option. Be sure you've closed all other doors before you open this one and walk through.

I never had any second thoughts at all. I guess everyone is different. You all are making a decision to improve your lives. That far outweights any risks associated with the band. It is a great choice but no always easy. Just know that going in and you will be fine.

You guys are absolutely correct, thank you for your views on the situation. I think the scariest part for me is the anesthesia.

I too was nervous about the surgery (in general) but I also knew the Lapband was definitley for me. Take some time to research and soul search. You'll know once it all comes together.

Good luck!

And I agree with you on the anesthesia. I don't react well to that stuff. I think for me, the anesthesia was the worst part of the surgery. I didn't really have much pain afterwards as many people post here on this forum but I felt like I was traumatized for a week after surgery due to the massive amounts of anesthesia, pain meds, fluids, anti-biotics and oxygen.

I have been banded 6 weeks tomorrow - I was second guessing my decision even as I was being led into the surgery room - I think we know we need help but also are scared of the unknown - so far I am having a great experience with the band - have a fill tomorrow.

I second guessed myself a lot! Why couldn't I just diet? Why not exercise more? Why not just eat better foods? Do I really need surgery to eat less? etc, etc,etc...... My answer to myself was I had already tried all the above several times, for several years, yet I continued to gain.

I could do all those things....for a few weeks at a time. I needed something to help me get my eating under control, LONG TERM.....and my experience with it is YES, this IS what I needed! I would do it again tomorrow!

Best wishes to you, know that a lot of us have been through the exact thoughts you're going through.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
