I need a Swift Kick

Recommended Posts

Hey all.. I haven't been on here in awhile, and boy does this site truly help you stay on track. I have totally fallen off the band wagon and I am so disappointed in myself for that. I always said, why do people fall off when they have this amazing tool and totally defeat its purpose? Well, I am one of them and it is hard to get back on track. Don't be afraid of hurting my feelings I am not that sensitive! Ugh... and... I haven't seen my Dr. in 3 months, no longer working so no insurance but my bf says... I'll pay go see them! So I have an appt next week. I am pretty embarrassed to go see her, I haven't lost a pound since the last time I was there. Thank God I haven't gained it either, which I'm surprised. Just need some encouragement of any kind. I know I can do this, but damn why is it so damn hard!

Thanks for listening,

Kayna

I was wondering where you were! You know what you need to do to get back in track....just do it!!! And at least you didn't gain any weight.

no gain is a win before you would have gained it all back and then some so the band is working....get a fill that will help a lot and that is how the band works best by being the right size for you and you head great job at holding steady for 3 mos....you are a winner...

Think that might have something to do with it? Since you lost your insurance, you need to replace her with some other sort of accountability mechanism. Revisit the basic, start measuring, start logging, start counting calories.

Just my humble opinion

Log all your food. Go back to the post op diet and start from there. If you dont make yourself accountable for everything you put in your mouth then you will fall off. None of this is easy and we all struggle day to day because there are so many things out there to tempt us. You have to know that doing this is helping you so much more then the temptations. Just jump back on and go for the ride. The one good thing about the band is that its never too late to start over.

Go get your fill girl!! Even if it cost money out of pocket!! It's worth it!! Keep your band tight enough that you have a good restriction

When I read about people "Getting off track", my first thought is "Where is the band, and why is it not working???

We are quick to blame ourselves for not being good dieters....but we had this surgery for a reason...the band is supposed to do something...(and in my case, just about everything)

Why else did we get this surgery if not expecting some results...

I hear people refer to the band as only a "Tool"...I get it....I understand...

I can go to Sears today, purchase a toll and put it in the toolbox and forget about it if I wanted to....

For me, this WLS was corrective surgery....altered the way I eat, how I eat, What I eat, and How Much I can eat....the only control I have over this is determining how I want my band adjusted in terms of fills, and wether or not I am going to adapt and change my old, bad eating habits........and I never doubted I wanted the Green Zone, from day #1......and I wanted everything that goes along with being in the Green.....

There was a poll taken on another (private) Lap band group I belong to, and the question was..."If and when you are having problems with your weight loss, do you blame yourself? Or do you blame the Band...."

The answers were quite revealing......some people acted as though they never had the surgery......

Forget that word 'restriction', the band doesn't restrict. The band will dim your appetite if you allow it to. It is a TOOL. It is there to aid you if you allow it to. You can eat slider foods to your hearts content and you will fail. The band hasn't failed you, you've failed yourself by not making wise choices. If you made proper food choices and do what you signed up to do, then you WILL be satiated, and that's what the game is all about. You have to want this, you have to be able to differentiate between head hunger and true food hunger. It's not easy, but if you want to be successful then you'll figure it out, if you can't figure it out then you owe it to yourself to ask for help.

If you made proper food choices and do what you signed up to do, then you WILL be satiated, and that's what the game is all about. How can you definitely say with authority that the band does not restrict, when others say it does?

We get fills....makes band tighter, equals restriction by definition.....restriction means to regulate, inhibit.....Green Zone is regulation of food portions, and regulation of hunger......

I love it when people say with authority something is not true, while I'm sitting here experiencing it everyday......am I a liar? Why would I say something if it were not true?

If you say the band will not restrict, perhaps the correct wording is that the band does not restrict for you, based upon your experiences and success.....

Because the next person, like me, will come along and say, based upon my experiences and SUCESS, the band does restrict......

We get fills, to make the band tighter, to do what?

Baffling....

i like your comment to this post alot.... and its true (in regards to wanting to eat better foods and asking for help)..i dont have any fills but the band/plication does restrict me. my dr told me some people have restriction with the band alone and some dont..i guess with all things, it varies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
