Dlaurel 4 Posted April 22, 2013 Hi everyone, I had my band surgery 6 days ago. I am having pain right at my port area (which is between my ribs midline and sternum when I take a deep breath in. It is not associated with eating and is constant from when I wake up until I go to bed. I tried advil bc i figured it was the inflammation from the port that may be pushing up against my ribs and lungs and that does seem to help. Did anyone else experience this and will it go away? I see my doctor Tuesday for a follow-up but I could use some peace of mind that this isn't just happening to me!

kll724 3,055 Posted April 22, 2013 Do you get up and walk? Also, coughing some helps relief of gas and gets air into your lings. Take care. Karen 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted April 22, 2013 pain breathing in (is normal) esp more so if a hernia repair was done (as it was for me)..it will get better each/every day even though it does not seem like it right now....and def keep sipping your liquids and def get up and move as much as you can to help with the gas in your tummy.....congrats on your surgery desire and dlaurel
can_do 195 Posted April 22, 2013 My port area didn't settle down to a completely, normal pain free state for more than 6 weeks. It improved, however, each day. Hang in there. This is normal and things will get better. You had major surgery and it takes time for your body to completely heal.
Dlaurel 4 Posted April 22, 2013 Thanks everyone. Yes I've been very mobile since the day of surgery. It just scares me that it's always going to hurt to breathe! It's probably normal to feel that way though right? How long until you were able to "normally" breathe?
can_do 195 Posted April 22, 2013 The discomfort I had in my chest, especially when breathing deep was COMPLETELY gone somewhere between day 10 and 14.
