hello everyone I am new to this forum and I am so thankful that I found it. I had my lap band surgery on April 17th and I have been having quite a difficult time lately.most recently its been constant "bubbly" feelings in my stomach, and diareeah so constant it keeps me up at night (which is im writing this at 3am...). I cant understand where all this bowel movement is coming from since I have ONLY been drinking Water, gatorade, and an occasional bite of sugar free water ice. Has anyone else experienced this, a nd is there any source of relief? Also, I noticed many people on this website are taking in much more than just Clear Liquids for the first week. Wondering why my budget no-good surgeon told me only clear liquids? I call him names because he was VERY short with me when he saw me after the surgery (when he walked in to my room at 530am to try and discharge me), he didnt give me time to a sk any questions, and totally disregarded some redness around my bellygutton that was a concern of mine 1 day post op, and is now speading daily.. I am supposed to see him for my one week follow up on this coming Thurs, but I wish I could just find a new doc to do my follow ups with. can anyone give me any insight into the above concerns? Thank you so much for including me in your form

I'm new to this too but I can share your pain with the diarrhea and liquid diet. I had two weeks of liquids before my surgery and a week of clear liquids post op. Now i'm on a week of full liquids and do mushy foods next week. I researched what I could possibly be pooping after almost a month of nothing. I'm not sure how accurate this is but it makes sense so I'll share it with you.

Urine is the liquids that have been flushed from your bloodstream. Any extra liquid stays in the colon. We're on liquid diets thats explains the watery stool. In addition, anything you drink that is not Water has particulates that are broken down in the colon. That's why there's always a little something besides Water. Also, your body dumps waste (dead cells, etc) in your colon, too.

Lastly, the water is a brownish/green/yellow because your liver is releasing bile making it that color.

Hope that makes you feel a little better. Congrats on your band! We're band buddies, I was banded April 11.

I had just the opposite issue. I took a tablespoon of Milk of Magnesia every two days when I was on liquids. That Protein mix just made mud in my system and I had to help getting it through.

I am the opposite, banded April 8th no pre- op diet, but just finishing my two weeks post op liquid diet, ready for the mushy diet. I've been totally bunged up!!!! Very constipated,I'm taking a liquid senna to move it (sorry for the detail lol)

My dr said the liquid diet is anything that will move up a straw, so Soup smoothies juice etc .

Good luck to you

Vickie xx

Liquids in, liquids out!

Everyone is different....but I was banded on the 11th of April and this will be my last week of clear liquids. I will have two more stages of food textures to go thru and both will last two weeks each per my surgeon. I have had no problem what so ever with diarrhea. My first movement post-op came later than what I was used to and kinda freaked me out that I wasn't gonna have one. coffee has always been my med for that....so I do drink one cup a day in the morning. Your body should be absorbing most of the liquids you are taking in to keep you hydrated. Are you getting in your Protein daily? If so how much did your doc recommend. I thinkj by the sounds of how your doc has been thus far, you should look for a better one. Just my opinion....support from your med staff is one of the main keys to being successful with your band journey.....I'm not an expert or a doctor by far!! Good luck to you!!

Hi. I also had my surgery on the 17th of April. My surgeon also has me on clear liquids for the first week. I've had fruit juice , sugar free Popsicles and Jello, and a little broth. Looking forward to adding some Protein when I progress to full liquids in a few days. Just this morning I woke up with some diarrhea for the first time. I expected it after just liquids for several days but I have to wonder if I need to make sure I'm close to the bathroom now until I move on to solids .i still feel like a blown up balloon. Do you still or has that passed for you now? My incisions are still sore but not horribly bad. I have 5 in my mid section, none in my belly button, maybe because of scar tissue there from previous surgeries.

like kll, if you are taking n liquids, liquids out

that was the case for me...my dr okay'd me to have immodium a.d to help aid with this and he also started me on a probiotic to help regulate me....i would say stay hydrated esp if you are going alot...you must not get dehydrated....i still have a change of clothes at work just in case.

it will get better although it doesnt seem like it right now.

It good that you are cleaning the colon it is dumping out all the toxin that your body has in it before surgery and your new life. Get so anti-diahea meds to slow it down or stop it. the sound you are hearing and feeling is again the body dumping all the toxin and will settle down as in progress on the program. I went the other way and have been consitapted but just recently found that lentil Soup correct that problem and taste good so also keep that in mind for the future just in case.

I had the opposite problem post-op, nothing for almost a week but I do get a lot of the "bubbly/gurgley" noises now 9 days later. It's interesting to see how different everyone's surgeon is. My instructions are clear liquids for the first 48 hrs post-op then full liquids days 3-7, mushy foods weeks 2 and 3 and then start full solids (starting slow of course) on week 4. That's also when I have my first post-op appt. I've seen some surgeons tell their patients to stay completely away from certain foods, where others (like mine) say to try it at least once and if you can't handle it then you'll know, same with the whole straw thing, there is no same set of instructions across the board. I saw a few different doctors before I chose one because I knew it would be really important to like my medical staff because they are the key to success. Hopefully he gets better or you find someone better! :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
