Let me throw in my 2 cents. I am an expert, only with my own body. You should try to be an expert with your own body. As said before, everyone finds their own way. Listen to your body and pay very close attention to what your band is telling you.

Over the last 4 decades I've been on many diets and I've narrowed down the foods and food groups that help me lose weight. I know the ones that hold me back. Having this plastic ring wrapped around my stomach has changed some of those dynamics but I'm listening and I think I get it now. You'll get it too in time. If you've dieted before and lost weight you should know what works best for you.

I loved the information my current nutritionist gave me. I had a different nut a couple years ago and she insisted on arguing with me over foods I should eat. She wanted me to eat foods I didn't like. Well, that's not gonna work! Unrealistic goals and diets won't work if you don't like them or can abide by them. Good luck.

BTW-I was on Atkins no carb diet for years and it always worked for me in the short term. But it's not a diet one can live with for long, imo. I did find ways to modify the diet so it worked for me, similar to the South Beach Diet.

as you can see, everyone has different options/ideas

i did not want to be left out, so here is mine

i eat lean Protein, veggies/fruit and drink alot--i also eat when hungry and in my allotted amount..i try not to over think it..as since i am not (dieting) i am just choosing to eat better food and make better choices.

missy and tmf was right in saying meeting with a nutritionist would be extremely helpful but just do what works for you...

Thanks for the advice and opinions. I am going to talk with a nutritionist to come up with a plan that works for mr. I do agree I should value my Dr's advice but there needs to be some type of plan that I can be successful with. I know out of the 20+ years of dieting unsuccessfully the one I know that doesn't work is NO carbs. I need to be patient and remind myself that this is a tool to aid in weight loss and I need to find something that works for me.

This is strictly my opinion. I'm not a doctor nor a nutritionist.

Once you're healed back on regular food' date=' you have to find food guidelines that work for you. Everyone is different and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for the rest. You have to find out what works best for you and your metabolism.

I personally can't do the whole low carb/no carb thing. I need a diet routine that I can use for the rest of my life and that definitely isn't it. I believe in moderation not deprivation. I also believe there's nothing wrong with carbs as long as you choose healthy ones. I've lost over 200 pounds in 15 months btw so I'm living proof that you can lose while having carbs.

I would go talk to a nutritionist, tell them your dilemma and see if maybe you can come up with a plan that is better for your life and more nutritionally balanced. When I originally saw mine, I told her flat out I refused to feel like I was being deprived and I didn't buy into the whole "carbs are bad" fad. She agreed and together we came up with a plan that works great for me.

Best wishes.[/quote']

I wish you could share that plan because I feel the same way!!!

When I first got back on track I barely ate veggies and fruit. I still do not eat a lot of them because I only get half cup meals. The longer I was good the more i have been able to incorporate more things back in my diet. Protein solids are most important. If you don't trust your dr why would you have surgery from him? Always follow what your doctor tells you to do.

As I have stated I do trust my Dr. I just don't understand the food plan.

I've been banded for a little over a year. I'm down 150 pounds. I started with the no carbs because that's what my doct said was the best. Lots and lots of Proteins. Now, because I missed them for so long, it's all I crave. And as a result have put back on 3 pnds in 2 weeks. For me moving forward, I'm gonna do 2 weeks no carbs and 1 week carbs and back and forth. Also a little advice- never wait until you are starving to eat. This is usually when all bad food choices are made.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
