Gone for Good Club - May 2006

I have to say I'm up for a summer challenge! But as Funny said - could it be for ONE month at a time?? Maybe 'adding' something to the initial challenge for July and August could work....

ROFL!! TELLY -- ok sure -- in two years our challenge will be KEEP the weight off woo hoo!

I can't always exercise -- disabilities won't let me - but I'll tell ya what -- my blood sugars are so darn LOW that I have to choose -- exercise or food! I am not happy choosing food - so I can't exercise or will lower my sugar even more since I don't want to eat more food -- I have bloodwork again end of June - until then I will continue minimal medication - but I have to take 'some' until that bloodwork comes back -- what a dilemma!

so yea for NO sugar and NO flour -- it DOES work!!!

Very much so Legally, I hit a plateau once and was stuck at 219 for a week. Biking, jogging, running.. shakes, nothing made it move that entire week. It happens.

Its very normal to hit plateaus, even with the band. Just keep doing what youre doing and dont worry about the scale. If you weigh every day it becomes frustrating... like clock watching. I have had weeks that I only lost 1/2 pound or nothing at all. But my overall average is just under 3 pounds per week. That is a great average! Are you tracking your weekly loss? If so, average it out. It will help you see a true picture of your progress. :)

Ok.. Im up for a June Challenge! Tomorrow will overlap. It will be the last weigh-in/scorecard day for the Spring Challenge as well as the first day of the June challenge. Here we go again. Any of you quiet Gone for Gooders interested in joining this go-round? I hope so!

Thanks Telly & PNut! Plateaus suck. I have a BEACH wedding on June 10th, so I have to go swimsuit shopping soon and I really wanted to be down about 10 lb more. But oh well.

Any ideas on youthful yet covering swimsuits :omg: ???

And count me in on another challenge, it really helped keep me accountable.

Heya Christy - just post a little bit about yourself so we can all get to know you, and have a look at page one of this thread. I'll add you to the Members page and put your stats up if you want them up. The Members page will show you how we post our stats. Then some of us choose to weigh in each week or participate in challenges we have. Our spring challenge is just ending but we have another starting up tomorrow. So you're just in time! Weclome to the club!

Thanks Pnut! Ive been on here awhile but was waiting to get rebanded before i joined up with yall but i need the encouragment yall have!! hehe

heres a bit about me for those who dont know me:

i was banded by Dr J rod. I was Originally banded in july of 2004 I had no issues no pain no nothing,,,,nothing,,,,i lost 55 lbs the first month and started getting humgry so i went for my first fill on my one month mark..when doing the flouro it apeared that the band was not in its position correctly.

I went to my primary care doc and he ordered an upper GI. In watching it we all saw as the barium would run right past my band...my band WAS NOT on my stomach but floating around.

I called dr rod and he had me come to Mexico for and endoscope.and once i awoke i was told he was going to fix it.

I awoke bandless.=0(

he came in and initally saId i Eroded..(in one month???) but after all my investigations over the past year ive found MANY things that could have happened.

I weighed 378 when he did the first one and i believe that either it either it was not fastened well and came off or was fastened around fatty tissue mistaking it for my stomach.

Either way the band was not on me ..I HAD NO PAIN..(which with erosion I should have especially if it happened in one month AND by the pics from the endo scope i had NO DAMAGE..it would have been a ghost going through without damaging hahaha)

and it was removed on september of 2004. He told me then to wait 6 months and we would reband me.

I was devastated that this happened..i looked into everything i could to explain it. I have come to the conclusion that this was a mistake not negligence by any means. All doctors have a precentage of error rate..well i was part of the very small precentage of his. And I'm ok with it. I know of lots and lots of people who have been banded by dr j rod and they are doing great! My mother for one..she was banded a year before me. She went with me this past trip to have her port checked out and he gladly did it for her.

So i went on may 12th 2006 and got rebanded by DR JROD! this time he used the larger band. I weighed 397 the day of banding.

I had No issues with the procedure. The hospitol and staff were curtious and clean as always.

Dr rod was very sure that I was comfortable and all was right when i left. Ensuring me that the procedure went well.

I have been baned one week and have lost 15 lbs! I loss very fast right up front..guess cause of my size cause everyones different.

Million dollar Question: Would i do this again?

Answer: IN A HEARTBEAT! AND WITH DR J ROD!! He is a great doctor and was very helpful with all this whole saga! I spoke with him on and off the whole year i was waiting to redo it.

SO im starting my journy all over! I am NOT doing this for pure cosmetic reasons..i just want to live alittle longer and enjoy all in life that i want to do. Smaller people tend to take for granit the things they can do..they can walk into any resturant, theater, sporting event, job place, doctors office, airplane and sit anywhere they want..they can ride roller coasters...they can buy clothes anywhere..drive any car they want..sit in a average bathtub...walk through a turnstyle..these are just a small grouping of things I TOO want to be able to do..am i complaining...not really...im just stating the facts and all heavy people i know will agree with me.

So i guess you could say...Im Adapting..i want to enjoy life to the fullest with my family and friends and not have to worry about all of the issues that come with my size when going somewhere or the issues of health..and getting smaller and looking even hotter that i already do..well thats just the extra advantage that comes with it all! hahaha:p

Thanks for listening and lettign me join your group!:clap2:

Love yall

Christy

All right! I want in the gone for good club, and I want in on the June challenge (I second the motion for doing month to month challenges).

For those of you who don't already know me here is a bit about me.

I'm from Florida, however my husband is Portuguese and 3 years ago we moved to Portugal. (the tiny country next to Spain, in Europe...just to mention because some people think it's in Africa!) I teach english at a private school and help out DH and DFIL at the family owned stores when I can.

I've had weight problems my whole life and was at my highest 250lbs in January when I found out about this new fangled thing called a lapband. When I first read about liquid diets and what not I forgot about the idea, but then some weeks later I stumbled across LBT, and they helped me decide that this is what I wanted to do.

I was banded on April 26th and I still feel like a newbie at this whole thing. I haven't lost anything in the last 2 weeks so I can't wait for some motivation. Now I just have to go read the first post and figure out this whole score card thinggie....geezz Susan, your programming analytical side came out here didn't it??

Also I would like to say that I sell Avon, and I will be offering a free gift bag with Avon goodies in it to the winner of the June (or summer which ever it turns out to be) challenge. (if thats okay with you Susan) Good luck to every one!!

Welcome to the GFG Club, Christy, sunsett & K@t!! I'm soooo happy that you've decided to join.

Kristin - doesn't it suck to be on a plateau?? I was averaging about 10 lbs. per month and then this past month and half - - very, very little. I'm hoping that the plateau is over and the weight will start coming off again like before. I want to be at my goal weight of 160 by my 1 year bandiversary, which is 9/16/06.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
