stephanie0456 38 Posted April 20, 2013 Well 2 months ago I had my consultation with my surgeon, I am 5"3 and I weigh 210... I have pcos, high blood pressure, severe psoriatic arthritis. Well my dr said I was a great candidate, and gave me a list of drs to see including a psych eval, a visit to my primary care dr also getting a letter from her, a pulmonoligist a nutritionist and also go for an upper ugi swollow study. I have completed all of these. Appointments and have faxed everything to him. My next appointment is this Monday, I'm curious to know what this appt is for and when do they send out my paper work to the insurance. I'm so worried I won't get approved... I have horizon nj direct access. Anyone know about this insurance? What comes next? I want to have this surgery soon!
Jona8698 12 Posted April 20, 2013 My insurance required all of that as well, but I was required to see the nutritionist once a month for 4 months as the teach you how you will have to live, think, and eat with the band. This appointment will likely be a final consult before they submit all the paper work to insurance. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for approval. Be prepared for another 4 weeks for surgery. Your surgeon won't put you on their schedule until you have been approved. Most are a month or so out on their bookings. I had your basic stats when I started and hit my goal weight 2 weeks ago (7 months post op). Best of luck. 1 CanCan1791 reacted to this
ksaug21 81 Posted April 20, 2013 Hi! I had those to complete as well. I was penciled in on my surgeon's operating calendar after I completed all of those and had my 3rd visit with him. My surgery is 4/29. My insurance (Aetna) required 3 visits to my surgeon, for 3 months. Once that was completed they sent in my paperwork for the insurance. Hoping to hear great news next week. I went Monday to see my surgeon and on Friday I started my pre-op diet. liquids. UGH. It's been a tough 2 days. I know I can make it though, just like to complain here and there on the way! They told me that Aetna takes 1 to 2 weeks for approval, that has been their experience there at their office. So we shall see! GOod luck to you!

Jona8698 12 Posted April 20, 2013 My goal size was more relevant to my than weight. I wanted to get to a stable 145 to 150 and be in a size 8. Both are achieved. I only had Protein Shakes for the preop. I don't care for sweets so I only have food I can chew now. A lot of protein:)
