So tired all the time. Lacking protein?

Recommended Posts

I have had my band for 3 yrs now. I was banded may 2010. I have bounced around with my weight a lot. I've been up and down. I have had a hard time following the rules and eating healthy. I find myself tired a lot. I feel as if I am malnourished. I drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and then eat a "normal" dinner.... Homemade chili, healthy Soups, chicken dishes etc. maybe I need to add some Snacks in between? Does anyone have any snack ideas? I don't do well with anything very dry as it doesn't go down well. Sometimes I feel so limited to what I can eat and I get discouraged I am doing a work out routine and half the time in have no energy to even follow through.

know In a post earlier i said I have had my band for 4 yrs but I was mistaken. It has only been 3 yrs. I was worried because I have heard all these ppl talking about dr kuri's band not being good and that's who banded me. I have had no problems so far though

Sounds like you already know what the problem is, not eating healthy.

You shouldn't be havingnso many Protein shakes and eating more solid Protein. If you are so tight nothing goes down, 1. are you taking small enough bites 2. waiting a minute between bites 3. chewing enough? If you're doing those three things maybe you need a small unfill. Sounds like you're eating more slider foods. There's a fine line between having a band just right and being too tight.

Are you getting in your 64 oz of Water? Taking vitamens?

You really need to make an apt with a Bariatric Dr, or nutritionist.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Ask your fill doctor or your PCP for a referral to a nutritionist. They're trained for this kind of question. I had to pay out of pocket for 6 visits and each visit was only $40. It's more than worth it!

Try to make sure the nut is very familiar with bariatric surgery?

Sounds like you are not eating enough solid Protein. Could also be Vitamin deficiency. Have you PCP do a complete blood work up and definitely see a Nutritionist to help plan better food choices.

I don't think I'm too tight. Sometimes I can eat quite a lot and sometimes it's hard to eat. I just have days where I am tighter. I really enjoy my Protein Shakes as they keep me full and are easy to make and very nutritional. Is it bad to drink Meal Replacement shakes?

My opinion is that you should think about getting a complete physical and blood work done. It could be a number of issues including poor diet. You should be getting at least 60 grams of Protein a day. Besides a physical and blood work see a nutritionist. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
