Soooo confused.

Recommended Posts

My dr office is closed til Monday and I am so confused! I am in the "mushy" phase and I am confused as to how many calories and carbs I am supposed to eat each day. I just reread my post op diet info and it just says to get 30-40 grams of Protein and not to eat more than 1/2 cup of food at a time. But I feel like if I don't get in at least 1000 calories I won't lose weight because that is counterproductive.

Anyone have any info?

when i was in the mushy food part I didn't lose anything because right now it is about your body healing not losing weight... when you start eating real food is when it will start with the weight loss again. My nut says between 800 and 1000 and 1200 if you work out a lot. hope this helps a little!

You are still healing. If you are in the mushie stage, your only job is to eat lots of Protein and heal. The next stage is for counting calories and working out. Get in your Proteins and heal! Good luck!

Like the others said, no need to fret over calories until maybe 6 weeks out of surgery. Till then, heal yourself and how many calories you consume is irrelevent as long as you don't go hog wild and eat too much.

Patience! just follow your doctors guidlines. I have been eating that way since end of October and have lost about 50lbs. It will be easier when you get to solids and have more food choices.

Are the Protein Shakes supposed to be in addition to the three 1/2 cup meals per day?

Yes. If you must count calories, (I keep on better track when I do), stay between 900-1200. That should be a good number for some guide lines. But at best advice, talk to your doc or nut. They can advise you best!

To be honest I stopped counting calories and I've been just fine through everything. I average around 900-1000 calories, sometimes I go all the way down to 600 calories. And I'm a 24 year old 5'10" tall guy.

Just remember Protein first, I average about 75 grams a day, then veggies and then fruit. Portion Control is important but only to prevent you from over eating and hurting yourself.

Also remember that your body doesn't work the way it used to. We all hear that a diet shouldn't go below 1200 or you will go into starvation mode. But that isn't true for us. For an average stomach, you go into starvation mode because less than 1200 calories would cause the production of ghrellin which is what tells your body you are starving. That's why lapband works, the band inhibits ghrellin production because your stomach fills quicker.

So for now, especially since you're healing and just starting out, forget the calories, just make sure you are hitting your target for Protein and portion sizes.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
