legallyKristin 0 Posted April 27, 2006 Hey guys! I was banded 3/8/06 and the doc said not to do abdominal exercises for 3 months after surgery. However, I'm already lifting weights and taking Jazzercize classes. I'm just wondering if everyone else's doctor also told them not to do ab exercises, and the reasoning behind it. Thanks!:bananadoggywow: :Banane20: Kristin
Tricia K. 0 Posted April 27, 2006 My doctor said I was free to do any type of exercise after 8 weeks.
Kelliebelly 13 Posted April 27, 2006 My Dr said it was because they had sewn the port to a muscle somewhere in the stomach and until it heals and has scar tissue adhering it more securely you could flip the port or something like that unless you are careful in the first few months. I took it easy for about 3 months, then started doing ab workouts. I am not allowed to do anything ab for 12 months after my TT.
legallyKristin 0 Posted April 27, 2006 Well that makes a lot more sense now. Thanks! :bananadoggywow: Kristin
Yoda 0 Posted April 27, 2006 Kirstin, my doc told me to avoid actual ab workouts for 3-6 weeks and then it would be fine. Personally, I would give it a little longer...but not 3 mos!!
omamoon 0 Posted April 28, 2006 I was taking Pilates twice a week before surgery, and my doc said no more ab work for three months. They make an incision through your abdominal wall for the port line to go through, and don't want you to have even a small chance of getting a hernia through that abdominal wall incision. PhotoNut 7 Posted April 28, 2006 Yup, the hernia would be my first guess as well. Best to follow Dr's orders. They "sometimes" know best. *snickers*
Jachut 487 Posted April 28, 2006 You could always do planks initially which is more isometric than an actual contraction of the stomach muscles.
