My mom got banded a few years ago && since then, getting the surgery was always on my mind. I began the process about three years ago when I was 17 && since I was a minor, I needed a doctor's consent && my doctor wasn't really up for it which was great news for me since I was so scared to get it. It wasn't my time. I wasn't ready for it. Last year,2012, around November, I felt like I was ready. I wasn't doing anything about my weight && I just kept getting bigger so I finally decided to get banded. Even though I'm only 20, I'm determined to lose weight && super focused. I don't think her age matters. When you're fed up with your weight, you'll do what you have to. I was banded January second of 2013 and I'm down 62 pounds && I'm still going. I think if she wants the surgery, just support her. It'll change her life the way it changed mine. She'll be able to be a normal young lady.(:

I just had surgery for my 27th birthday and wish I had done it sooner. If your insurance covers it, and she is serious, let her get it. It will change her 20s and help her avoid heart ache etc. I look back at my wedding pictures and regret being so heavy. When I hit goal weight, my husband and I are going to have a vow renewal and retake photos, but years of my life were wasted being fat and unhappy, don't make her go through the same thing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
