My Journey Starting With Pre Op Diet

Recommended Posts

Tawnya, I just found this place, and saw your blog. I will have my first consultation with my regular medical doctor on Tuesday, and will be starting the process through insurance, nutritionists, etc. Reading your story has been an inspiration to me, and I hope I'll read more from you in the weeks and months to come.

You've made a difference in my life, and I wanted to let you know that.

Hello Linda and welcome. Thank you so much for your kind words and reading my post. I'm so

glad that my post have helped you. I'm here if you ever have questions or just want to talk. I'm trying to get in the habit of logging on every day again.

Do you have to do a supervised diet for several months for insurance purposes?

I don't know what is going to happen. I know insurance said they *won't* cover it, but they will. What that means is that they 1 - won't cover it just for the heck of it. 2 - they will only cover it if I'm morbidly obese (which I am), and 3 - that I also have to have other complications with it (which I do). I am afraid though, that I may have too many complications. I'm on a lot of different medications that I simply cannot do without. I know I'll have to jump though a lot of hoops before I get to the actual surgery. Its depressing and overwhelming. What has not happened, through lots of months of exercise and extreme diet is weight loss. This is partially due to the medications I take. Damned if I do, Damned if I don't.

Thanks again.

How are YOU doing right now?

I don't think your insurance would deny you for having to many complications. If anything they will want you to have the surgery to hopefully help and prevent any complications. My insurance denied me the first time and then I became diabetic and was put on high cholesterol meds. After that my paperwork was resubmitted and I was approved, just when I had given up on having the surgery. I'm thankful that I finally did get the surgery. You probably will have to see your physician for a few months for supervised diet and the nutritionist. If you follow all the guidelines then you should be approved no problem.

I'm doing good. I don't have any pain. I'm just hungry still and can't wait for my fill. I'm drinking my shakes and eating a little bit of mushi foods so that I can lose weight and get back on track. I will weigh myself at the end of the month to see where I am. I don't want to keep weighing myself everyday, because then I get discouraged. It really doesn't even feel like I have a band so I really need to watch what I eat until I get my fill.

Best Wishes to you Linda!!! Let me know how everything goes with journey.

Tomorrow marks day one with the doctor. I finally admitted to my husband exactly how much I weigh. That was HUGE and really hard. Hubby will be going through this with me, including the appointment tomorrow. I'll probably do the rest on my own, but with his support.

I have several co-morbid diseases. High blood pressure, thyroid problems, TKR, granuloma annulare (skin), and bipolar disorder. Yay me.

I'm glad you're doing well and that you are not in pain. I don't own a scale. Guess I'll have to get one. Don't disappear on us. I really do care what happens to you, and as I said before, you are an inspiration.

Hello everyone. I thought I would share my experience from the start with everyone. Today is my first day on my liquid diet' date=' and so far so good. I will be banded on May 1st. I woke up hungry, but quickly made my Protein Shake and was satisfied. I picked out two really good flavors; banana and orange cream. Can't really say I miss food yet. I was going to take my son for a walk, but it is raining so I plan on using the treadmill. My starting weight is 270.[/quote']

So these past few days have been full of lots of cleaning and school work. We are moving in July just not sure when yet, that's the military for ya...lol... I have been drinking shakes for Breakfast and having mushies the rest of the day. I went for a walk the other day, but I'm going to start a regular walking routine tomorrow. I'm waiting to weigh myself until the end of the month, instead of every day. Still no word from my dietician. Oh well I can do it on my own and when I move I will get a new dietician. Can't wait for my fill on June 13. I know it will take a couple of fills to get me to be restricted, but every bit helps. I can down Water and I never feel sick. I really don't feel like I have a lap band. Hope with that fill I feel something even pain so at least I know it's there. I feel like I have so much more energy now days. I guess that's why I have been scrubbing the lights, cabinets, and just about everything....lol... Sorry everyone I have been super busy, I have not forgot you all and will continue posting.

How did your dr appt go? I remember telling my husband how much I weighed, I felt ashamed and embarrassed that I let myself get this way. Telling him actual made me feel better, because he said that he will love me no matter how much I weigh and he is willing to help me with ever I decide or need help with. That's really awesome that you have your husbands support. They're like our rocks we need to lean on until we can stand alone. All your health issues should be a reason for your insurance to approve you. I have diabetes, high cholesterol, asthma, sleep apnea, had my gallbladder removed, anxiety, panic attacks, and I'm over 100 pounds overweight. I was only denied by my insurance the first time, because the lady at the surgery center told me Tricare is approving the lap band with a 3 month physician supervised diet. When she submitted my paperwork it came back that I needed to do a 6 month physician supervised diet.

Thank you so much for posting on here and sharing your journey with me. I'm not going anywhere just got a little busy, but I'm making time to keep posting. It really is nice to have someone to talk to about the lap band. If there is any other questions I can answer please let me know. Thank you for your kind words, it truly helps me push forward :)

Congrats on starting your new journey. I drank the total lean shakes from GNC, about three a day. I also would have sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicle, broth, and I was approved to eat egg whites. I had anywhere between 400-600 calories a day. Oh yeah by the way those shakes are mixed with Water. I also have tried nectar shakes, but I took those with milk until my husband made it with water and honestly it taste the same without the extra calories from milk. Hope that helps.

This is going to be long, so I'll post it over on my journey, except to answer your questions. Telling my husband was a major thing for me. He said that he figured it out. Not surprised, and yes, he still loves me. He's in it for the long haul. Thirty years in June. I do have a lot of support. My children, husband, and believe it or not, my father. lol

I hope to keep in contact with you. You seem like a lifeline kind of person. Very helpful, nice and forthcoming. I need that sharing through this. Thanks. :-)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      3. buildabetteranna

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
