Weight loss in mushie stage???

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my names Lexi and I was banded 2nd of April 2013:) I've just come out of my thicker liquids to mushie stage ! Throughout the liquid stage I lost (including pre opp diet) 14 kgs which is amazing!! But I've come off liquids and not lost anything in the last week :( normal? Considering I haven't had my fill yet?? I'm still restricted too and eating hardly anything so I find it weird.. Just venting!

I'd love any insite!

Thanks !

Hi Lexi,

Your weight will bounce around considerably during the healing phases and post op diet. It's also really important to remember that the 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. Right now it's important to follow your doctor's instructions and give your stomach time to recover. Weight loss will come once you're back on solid food and healed up.

Best wishes

Thanks so much for the advice! Yeah I can't think about loss for the first 5 weeks it's all about healing:) I shall relax and focus on Protein and recovering :)

Take care !

This will happen. ALOT. You have to remember this, your body is an amazing machine that has the ability to adapt and change to meet its needs. We are like terminators ( which i think is totally cool cause i want to be bad ass like arnold in leather pants.... ummm... i digress). Anyway, our bodies adapt to changes we make. So after a while your body will realize you are eating less, and it will hold on to more of what you put in. Thus causing a weight loss stall. But over time you will start to lose again. food choice is a productive thing. But eat the same thing every day and your body will realize it and be ready for it. Change it up a bit. Have fun (in moderation) and your body will burn through the fat much like the insides of my thighs burn through jeans!!! Best of luck!!!

Woo thanks draven! That's really helpful! I just have to be patient! It will happen! Do you think things will change when I have my first fill too?? Because I'm feeling less and less restriction now:(

Lex, it will change for the rest of your life :) You are feeling less restriction now because your swelling is going down. You are healing from a pretty major surgery. Your insides are super pissed at you right now. so they tried to battle you from within. Your insides have just realized it was a losing battle so they are retreating and unswelling. So you will feel less restriction now. Let your body heal. Show it some mercy. But in a few weeks you will crush their spirits yet again with your first fill!! ( insert evil laugh here) ( p.s. it would look so evil and cool if you were petting a white cat here as well ala any evil genius in a james bond movie). Your body will gather forces again and rebel ( swelling up but really just a futile show of force.). You will be restricted again for a bit but this too shall pass. And than the trick is to find the right amount of fills to produce some serious weight loss.

Remember this though. This has now become a life long battle. You will gain a little some days, lose alot others. I often say this, the worst thing we do to our selves is weigh ourselves. It leads to too much worry. Let your body tell you how you are doing. Are your clothes getting a little too loose to be walking around a mall without security stopping you? Are you less out of breathe trying to run away from said security? Let those be your deciding factors for now. And remember- give it time!! you didnt gain weight over night ( although somehow I'm sure I actually did!!!) so you will not lose it all over night ( no matter how many times you write santa, again and again and again and again. I think he read those letters petting his white cat!!) You will do great!!!!

My loss stopped in mushy phase too- boy my body change didnt! Your body will continue to morph even though the scale isnt moving!

This first pic is night before surgery..1 wk post op and then 3 weeks! No change from 1 week to 3 weeks (and really til today @4 weeks) on the scale- but big change in body!

Keep on going and dont get discouraged!!! You are doing the right thing!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
