Restaurants - lap band portions?

Recommended Posts

Are there any restaurants out there that offer special portions and prices for banded people??

Unfortunately none that I'm aware of. Some will let you order off the children's menu or a half portion but that's about it.

I just order the smallest portion available and take a lot home for future meals.

I was told by my NUT that when you get Banded that you'll get a laminated card, with band information that can be used at restaurant's so that you can order from the kids menu? I personally never received one :o I think it's ultimately up to the discretion of the restaurant But as MIS73 stated, I either just take home the left overs or split a meal with my spouse.

Sometimes I just order the Soup, or salad, and then something from the appetizer menu for my entree like a crab cake....

But most of the time I order whatever I want, and the band prohibits me from eating too much so I wind up bringing most of it home, for dinner the next day.

For that reason I always order something high in Protein, like fish, and eat that first knowing I'll probably not get to the sides.....

We eat out often, at lest twice a week....both my wife and I work long days....

I got the card for children's menu, haven't used it yet. Lots of the kid menus are junk food with hotdogs. mac and cheese and fries. I usually order fish or and sandwich without the bread and fruit or veggies.

My first year I ate out almost every day. I never got a laminated card, but the surgeon gave me a paper one. I have never had to use it. I ask the restaurant to cook the way I want my food prepared. At the beginning I even had them put my meat in a blender when I was on mushies. I either order from the senior menu or take home 2/3. Local restaurants that I frequent do cater to me. My husband is great and often orders what I want so I can just pick off his plate. You will figure it out. Ask for a nutritional menu that way you won't even order most things or find a different restaurant!

I now cook more at home but still eat out 2-3 times a week.

My card is paper also, not laminated. The only place I'd tried to use it is Hometown Buffet (where I was hoping to get a kids price, since I'm a wasted of $ there), but they no longer take it.

I also usually just order off the regular menu and take home about 2/3 of whatever it is. Alot of restaurant also have senior meals, which would probly be healthier than the kids menu

Hubby and I talked about Jim ordering a meal. I would get Soup and pick off of his plate.

I did get one of the laminated cards from my doctor. If yours mentioned it, ask for one. But be be totally honest, I don't think I would ever use it. I'd rather order something small, or have food to take home, rather than advertise that I'm a bariatric patient. But that's just me :-)

Sometimes restaurants serve salad and Soup before entree. How do most of you handle that? Do you just eat the entree?

Like at Olive Garden, for example. It's soup or salad and breadsticks with the entree. I usually order soup (luv their chicken gnocci) and eat about 1/3 of it. I might have 2-3 bites of hubbys salad. I eat about 1/2 of a breadstick along with about 1/3 of my Pasta (take it home for 2 more meals. I'm usually sick of it by the 2nd meal however and it gets wasted). I rarely get dessert but if someone else does, I might take 1 bites of it. I do everything in moderation. Just take a couple bites of each thing and you'll be good!

I wouldn't give a rat's ass about wasting anything. Firstly it's no one's business what you eat or don't eat. Are they paying for it? If not, ignore the comments. Boy...that gets my blood boiling.... Here you are trying to eat healthy and others are bullying you into doing something you know is not good for you. Try to watch how a thin person eats. They leave over lots of food...or they don't eat certain things at all. If you want to have one spoonful of soup and three pieces of lettuce, just do it and don't worry about what other people say.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
