nervous something is wrong?

Hi i was banded on feb 15 ive had 2 fills and im up to 4.2.. The last fill was a month ago but i am feeling i can eat more that i should.. Ive never had any complications and i have only been sick twice..everyone ive spoken to has been telling me there will be a heap of foods i wont agree with and i will experience all these discomforts... am i just lucky or is there a fault with my band? I dont feel the restriction like other people i have spoken to.. Im quite worried..any advice is welcome!

The band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything nor is it supposed to control your portions for you. It will always be your job to do both. This is why it's so important to stick to band sized portions.

As far as foods in general, most of us can still eat the same foods we always did if we take small enough bites and chew thoroughly. I know there isn't anything I can't eat if I'm careful.

I only have 3 cc's in my band and sometimes I feel restriction and sometimes I don't. I think it just varies by day and like Missy said...you can pretty much everything you did before with a few exceptions. I stick to a 1/2 to 1 cup and go from there.

Thank you.. That website was very helpful...i need to be more concious of how fast i eat... And how much i drink with my food...i tend to eat very quickly when i am alone...

I most always can eat more. That is why I measure my foods so I know when to stop!!

The band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything nor is it supposed to control your portions for you. It will always be your job to do both. This is why it's so important to stick to band sized portions.

As far as foods in general, most of us can still eat the same foods we always did if we take small enough bites and chew thoroughly. I know there isn't anything I can't eat if I'm careful.

Get another fill I have a 10cc band and it works best at 6cc in it, some folks can go with none but most has to have at least half or a bit more. Call your doctor ans talk with him about it.

The Key is education.. and that's WHY you came here, correct?

Also perhaps your doctor, nutritionist, didn't inform you prior or after your surgery of all the endless possibilities that might occur with your band.

i need to be more concious of how fast i eat... And how much i drink with my food...i tend to eat very quickly when i am alone...

your not supposed to be drinking 30 mins. before or after eating, (my nut's advise)If you haven't gotten Slimed, stuck, or vomited consider yourself LUCKY, because if you do you'll remember why, and hopefully it wont happen again. (it's uncomfortable)

Some people DO have issues with certain foods, others do not.,

And some people never get to goal losing weight or experience complications, IT happens, were all different :rolleyes:

Have you seen a nutritionist since surgery? I'd slow down your eatting and start there .

The problem is what you are saying is not be taught by a majority of surgeons, so it really isn't unusual that we see so many people showing up believing that.

Thanks fpr the tips.. Yes i have seen a nutritionist but she went through foods to eat and not to eat.. Not much more to be honest.. My dr is very quick, she answers my questoons honestly.. But it seems ive been asking the wrong ones.. I came on here for some support and advice.. I know im not the only one with questions and concerns so it helps having somewhere to go to discuss and get ideas from...

If you can eat fast you're probably not at your green zone. No biggie, sometimes it takes more than a couple of fills to get there. It won't happen for everybody immediately - it took me up to 8.5 cc in a 10cc band to get there. And I started to think the band wasn't working!

And for some, yes they can tolerate anything. I couldn't tolerate rice very early on. I'm talking about one bite and it would all come back out. But other people have no intolerances at all - don't use food tolerances as a yardstick.

And when I got to the green zone, I honestly could NOT drink when I ate. But that was just me. Think of it this way - one of the band rules is don't drink your calories. That's because liquids go through your band faster and doesn't satiate you the way harder foods would. Drinking with your meal is like drinking your calories.

I also don't chew my food to mush (same reason as above). I think if I'm chewing it to mush, I'm probably too tight, just personally.

So for me, I looked for a 'spot' where I could eat real food, eat slowly but not over-chew, and it would keep me satisfied for hours. By the sounds of it, you're not at that point yet.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
