Actually yes, you could badly mess up your stomach by not following your post op diet exactly as your doctor directed.

Stick to your post op diet and don't progress ahead of schedule or cheat. Your health and healing depends on you being compliant to your doctors orders.

Best wishes

I had emailed my doctor when I was in your boat. I'd gotten to the point where I was so completely grossed out by the liquids, and didn't think I could take it another minute. I asked him if the liquid period was specifically for healing, or if it was about what we may or may not be able to tolerate. This was his response...

"It's all a healing issue. The original period of liquids was four weeks. Some programs still use it. We cut ours down to ten days of liquids. There are lots of things that can go wrong with an operation. And many of those things are triggered by patients jumping ahead of the schedule believing that its ok. I can't tell you how many patients have jumped ahead and had problems. Please stick with the liquids until Thursday then you can advance to mushy foods. You only have to do this once"

Hang in there.....you are SO close!

Stick to your diet. I cannot stress that enough. If you don't and something goes wrong, you're going to be kicking yourself. It is a few more days, in the scheme of things, just a drop in the ocean of the rest of your life. Don't think about tomorrow, just get through today. And worry about tomorrow tomorrow. And again, stick to your diet.

Call your doctor and see if you can blend regular Soups like campbells. It saved me post op. Do not do anything without asking your doctor.

As long as you blend everything into a liquid state. Just remember to use low cal if possible. If you blend a can of Soup that has 400 calories, there is still 400 calories in a can. Most of us here went through this entire period on liquids for a complete period of healing. I went over 20 days in post healing on liquids.

Best wishes.

Ty, I think I have read this post-opt diet paperwork everyday and I can do smooth Soups now so I put everything in the blender first to get it runny so I can drink it we also add Water..I am just now seeing Jello is on there Yeah but I think when people stop smoking they turn to food well that is something I cannot and will not do

I was so sick of the canned condensed cream Soups, so I got some of the homemade ones from the market. They were certainly made with 100% real cream, and very thick. I diluted them with some Water or milk, strained out the solids, and had a little less than a cupful. I was DESPERATE for something that didn't make me gag, and this was the bandaid that helped me get through.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
