Surgery in 4 days, getting nervous....

Recommended Posts

My surgery is in 4 days and im getting nervous about the whole thing but yet really excited! Im not used to doing something so drastic for myself and it feels weird but good too. I cant wait to get healthy and this will put me on the right track. Im staying in a hotel for two nights and im wondering what I should bring to drink in the hotel.... I bought a portable blender and im guessing there will be an ice machine. My husband will probably be eating fast food! I hope they give me pain meds too, im kinda a baby about pain. Cant believe it's finally time!

I totally understand how you're feeling. I'm 10 days away from surgery and am totally nervous and second guessing my decision. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with my choice but am also scared. Good luck and wishing you all the best!

I stayed in a hotel prior to my surgery and I would advise being bottled Water as you will be on Clear Liquids most likely after surgery.

They gave me pain mess but the most pain I experienced was gas pains post surgery. It went up to my left shoulder so walk a lot post ip and do arm exercises to break up any gas.

Was banded 12/28/12 and I'm feeling pretty good. I've lost close to 40 lbs and I'm hoping to reach my goal by December 2013

Hi skenn31,

I was banded on 4/11/13 and was also pretty scared/nervous going into this. I am not gonna sugar coat anything for you and if you are one of the unlucky ones to get the gas pains, it hurts like hell and the key is to keep moving and move every hour from the time they say it is okay to start walking in the hospital. The fourth day for me (today) is a dream with very little gas discomfort left. I have been living on sugar free Jello, Vitamin Water zero, chicken broth and bottled Water so I am not sure you will need your blender right away unless your doctor stated those types of foods right away. Every doctor is different it seems in what they want you to eat in the weeks following surgery or so it seems by reading posts on here. This will be the best thing you could ever do for you in your life....just keep your eye on the end result. Good luck to you and keep us posted. :)

I was so confident about surgery until the week before- then I was a wreck. I questioned myself, beat myself up about why I ever got in this position, etc. then the night before surgery I was calm and sure that this was the right decision for me. I was still a little nervous of the unknown, but knew that I was on the right path. I had to stay in a hotel too. I bought Isopure Protein clear liquid premade shakes from my surgeon. They were $4 each, but I only needed 2 a day. Good luck! I had a hernia + lapband and had a lot of swelling-took me 2 weeks to feel better. I had surgery on Feb. 8th and have had 2 fills. Not in the green zone yet, but am on my way! You will be so glad you did this!

Bottled Water, broth, and your heating pad. Depending on the hotel, they will have non fat milk, cranberry juice, tea, & coffee. You need the water to sip on frequently after the surgery, my throat was sore and dry. I found having something like Vaseline or lip balm a nice luxury too. I also wore sandals and a pull over long dress. There was no pressure on my tummy and I could just slip my feet into my shoes. Good luck! You will be happy you did this!

HEATING PAD is a life saver for me. I made my own chicken broth and lived on that the hot liquid made my tummy feel good. Laxitive/stool softener to get that gas out ASAP( wish I had started that a week b4) Snapple was nice to sip on and Water of course. Pre-made EAS Protein Shakes are the tastest for me. banded Aug 2012 and dowb65 lbs ans love it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
