aggressive vs non aggressive fills

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my first fill on may 15. My surgeon told me that he does fills by over filling then having you drink Water and then he backs out Fluid until the water goes through--and then he takes out an additional .5cc. He says that this is more successful than the slower multiple visit fills and can get you to the green zone sooner.

Does anyone have experience with this type of fill procedure and on average how long did it take you to get an ideal amount in the band?

<p>I've heard of doc's doing fills the way you describe, however I don't have any experience with that method.

Here's the method my doc uses: http://www.hoab.org/...louis-missouri/

You'll find this topic is very subjective, not only from patient to patient but from doctor to doctor.

I personally prefer slow, gradual fills. It's a lot easier to gradually work into the Green Zone than it is to blow past it and try to back into it, bouncing between not enough and too tight.

But that is just my opinion and my doctor's opinion.

That's the way my DR. dose my fills. They put in the fill then I drink ice cold Water and tell them when I feel it go down or sitting there above my band.

My surgeon is very strict and conservative with fills. He will not agree to a fill sooner than 6 weeks from your prior fill, and maximum fill is 1.0 cc. While the needle is still in the port, he will have you gulp Water in his presence and ask if you feel too tight. If you say that it feels too tight, he will remove some of the Fluid and have you gulp more Water. Not the most precise method, but I have never left his office feeling too.tight.

I've just had to have 1/3 of my Fluid removed because my band got very tight due to family stress. After a number of nights with severe reflux and pain, I know I would never want to go through being too tight again.

Both my surgeon and I prefer the conservative and gradual fill method of getting to the green zone. This does vary by surgeon though.

Slow and steady works for me. There is nothing worse than too full!

My doctor is very conservative if I am losing enough weight in his opinion then he will not do a fill. I had to beg for .5cc at the last visit. Hugs

I have never heard of a doctor doing that. You can look one way under xray but it affects you differently. I also prefer slow and steady. I have been too full a few times and had to have unfills. They will only give me .25 at most now. I also prefer to be looser then tighter. It works for me. I need to enjoy my food and cooking. Best of luck to you.

the more aggressive the fills the more potential you have to encounter problems. If you go slowly you get used to the new eating guidelines going from " 0 - 100" rapidly means you are less likely to have adapted and more likely to have a bad stuck episode.

This is one of the best posts I have ever seen.

On my way to get fill again, it has been almost two years and I have only had 2 fills. Never been at a comfort zone.

My first fill was by a PA and she is conservative. My second was by my doctor and he does it under X-ray and filled it up to nothing going through and then backed off a little. I had to go back 5 days later and have a tiny bit unfilled. Now I am in the green zone;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
