getting back on the wagon

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I had my band surgery just over 6 years ago. In the first 3 years I did great. I lost 145 lbs, was eating well and working out regularly. I had cosmetic surgery to remove extra skin and was doing great.

Then I had some life issues and I stopped working out and watching what I ate (looking back I think I as depressed - but all that matters is I fell back into old habits). Since then I've had 2 deaths of those close to me and moved 3 times, one to a new state. In the last 3 years I have gained 60 lbs back. Part of that is due to the bad habits, and part because I had my band deflated due to night cough before i moved out of state.

I have decided to get back on wagon and recently got a fill. I am trying to eat better and really trying to get back to working out.

Since my fill I am good during the day. I have some restriction, but can still eat any foods I want and drink as much liquid as I want- just the quantity of food is restricted. However, after I stop eating at night liquid has a hard time passing, and I find that it sits above the band - and if I lay down I feel like it is coming up my throat. Any suggestions? I'd like to avoid an unfill if I can since my restriction the rest of the time is good.

Thank you all!

~Lori

That's just not right? If you can eat regular food and it passes through your stoma but Water can't, that makes no sense? I would speak to your doctor and or nutritionist? Fluids should have no problem passing through the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
