I couldn't eat it! :( I'm just so nauseous every time I smell something is not a soup' date=' I tried one little spoon and I had to stand up to get my nauseous medicine. I shouldn't get that concern since I'm only 1 week prep op and tonight I can start my mushed foods, but it feels bad :( I prefer not to eat at this point, just water.[/quote']

Lola.. how about shakes that way you get your Protein but don't need to get nauseated every time. ... and ease into the mush. ..I lucky didn't have an issue and was banded 4/24..

I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'm just 5 days post op and the though of food makes me ill. I've been walking around with nausea meds at all times. I can't even get down my shakes. I had to hold my nose and just swallow last night to get anything down then chase it with nausea meds.

I feel exactly like that. Did you have your hernia repaired? I think is because of that. More stitches, more pain in that area. It's not just banded, it was a fixing surgery so the recovery should be a little longer. It's so hard for me the shakes! I know I need them but still feel that heaviness in my chest and its kinda painful and after that nauseous instantly. I hope it gets better :(

I didn't have a hernia repair but I've always had a pretty weak stomach. Maybe that's part of it. I guess everyone just a heals differently. This was my first surgery and even though unheard experiences on here I think you never really know what to expect.

I know I need to get some Protein, but I'm not gonna lie it is kinda nice being grossed out by the though of food right now. Much better than craving!

Hello everyone - I feel like it has been ages since I was here. Today is the first day I have been well enough to be at the computer.

Finally I am posting my update.

I had my surgery on Tuesday. Unfortunately I am one of the few people that had complications. It was funny, I could tell my recovery was not going as smoothly as it should by about the second day, just from remembering having read stories on here.

I wasn't sure whether to post my story or not as I don't want to scare anyone... but then I thought... maybe this could HELP someone if they experience this.

By Thursday afternoon I was pretty sure something was wrong. I was unable to swallow ANYTHING without extreme pain, including my own saliva. This got worse and worse, and soon I was vomiting foamy white stuff. To cut a long story short, I live 2 hours away from where I got the surgery but we did an emergency run to the hospital in the middle of the night, me vomiting the whole way. I had excruciating pain... and I have had two kids as well as one other major surgery to compare it to.

My surgeon wasn't coming in until the morning, and they didn't really know what to do with me through the night. Xrays, blood tests, and then one doctor tried to remove Fluid from my very swollen port and couldn't. (OUCH). So they doped me up on morphine and anti-nauseates until my doctor showed up. He solved the problem in 5 minutes... managed to get only 4cc's of fluid out and I recovered pretty fast after that.

NOW I finally feel how I expected to feel after surgery... not great, but that "normal" feeling of healing. I guess I got set back in my healing (and sleep) for a few days, but I am back on the road to recovery now.

I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, but if you start to feel pain that seems beyond, and have any indication of foamy "vomit" don't hesitate to call your doctor immediately. I wish I had acted a bit sooner before things got as extreme as they did... I didn't want to be a "pain" or a "complainer", which now I realize was a mistake on my part!!

Poor thing! I pray for a smooth recovery for now on, just take it easy, sip lots of Water and rest. I'm doing fabulous now! But first week was really hard! I wish I had more days off work and I was not able to eat a thing (so I lost 14 pounds). But today I eat half cup mushy meal and I feel my energy is getting back so it gets better! You have to have faith the see the light after the first week, but I promise is there! Take care sweetie!

That sounds terrible. I'm glad you decided to share your story so that people know what signs to look for on what is not normal. I feel like I was being a baby now after hearing that. Hope all goes well from here on out!

I was wondering where you were... I'm SO sorry that you had to go through this... That stinks! Well I'm glad that you got through it and are now on your road to recovery.. It's a good thing that you shared your story! You may help someone else with your story. Great advice on not worrying about "bothering" your doctor or about "complaining". Screw that, that's what they are there for! Good luck! Good to hear from you. Wish it was different circumstances though...

Oh man...that sucks!! I thought about you a lot...and I'm so glad that they were able to fix everything Cat Whisperer!!

I'm feeling really weak...only Protein Shakes and Water will go down at this point. As it turns out my Aunt Flow came for a visit on day three post op and I feel like the band is so tight.

The best way to describe it would be like I just finished the biggest turkey dinner of all time...24 hours a day!! I know thing will get better but this is scary.I'm only taking in about 300 calories a day.

I'm still very excited and have a positive outlook...I'm just a little nervous.

Things will get better now...its getting there.

I'm so glad you're getting back to normal...I feel so bad that you had to come back in!! Hope you have a great rest of the weekend...think of next May long weekend and how we're going to feel and look!!

I can't wait my friend!

Leannel!!! I know how you feel! I thought the same thing that it was too tight and the turkey feeling too! Lol but today is so much better, I had my first meal in 8 days, super mushy, and it gave a little indigestion but I was able to eat! (I think i was like 100 calories a day before because i just wanted to drink water, no even the shakes). Before I thought I was going to die because I wanted just water to avoid the "turkey feeling". I promise it will get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
