Surgery was yesterday

Recommended Posts

I just got Gas X. I called my surgeon this morning. I also have a rotten sore throat. You are right the gas pain is unimaginable. I am hoping for some relief soon. Oh, I had surgery yesterday. Good luck and hopefully we will be taking deep breaths soon!

I know not many people will have this at their disposal, but I too could not take a deep breath. My husband has a rehab machine that looks like the gear box of a bicycle. You peddle with your hands. I swear, it is what gave me relief. It increased my breathing, and the gas went away. Recline, don't lie flat, and use a moist heating pad. I did take gas x saw no improvement, but on day three I had a Pepcid. It was the final piece to relieve the pain. The surgery incisions are nothing, it's the gas. The doctor & staff glossed over that part, so no, I was not expecting it to be that intense.

It's days like that, that make you realize how good you have it the rest of the time! Haha! Congrats ladies we did it, and it only gets better! Big hugs to all of you!

Thank you all for your support. I am still really sore but the air is not wthat hurts me the most it is the soreness around the port area. Sitting and getting up, almost bring me to tears each time. I know this too shall pass with sunnier days to come but right just trying to make it through this minute.

Hi dand03,

I was just wondering how you were doing this morning. I hope you are much better. My niece who was banded 3 years ago (looks wonderful) told me that the third day was when she felt like she had been hit by a truck. Well, yesterday was the third day and I asked her if it was possible for two trucks to have hit me....cuz I sure felt like it....LOL. I sat up last night in the recliner as balbuquerque mentioned and watched tv for about an hour with my hubby. To my surprise, today is a much better day and the gas pain is pretty much gone. Getting up and down is done without a pillow on my belly today so things are good. I plan to take a walk outside if the weather cooperates today also. I truly hope you are having a better day and your pain is subsiding also. :)

Hi dand,

Today has been much better for me also. I'm glad you got a good nights rest because that had to help greatly. I was supposed to go back to work today but I think I will take one more day to rest. I still have some gas pains going on but nothing compared to yesterday. So I'm thinking that every day will bring me that much closer to better....LOL. Keep me posted on your successes.....Hurray on starting this new chapter in our lives!!

Marlena Marie, thank you for asking, yesterday was a much better day thank goodness! The pain is subsiding so I am able to slowly move to a side sleeping position which is my preference. I am struggling with being hungry(who wouldn't give a right arm to say that). I drink just a couple sips of anything and that's all I can handle. I'm averaging about 1/4 cup Protein Shake a day and I know that's not enough but so afraid to push it and get sick to my stomach.

Well we are on the same eating amounts I see....lol. I actually talked to my nutritionist today and she said I will work up to the amounts and not to push it and get sick. Our bodies are getting used to foreign matter and a new way of life so it may take a few more days or even a week. Funny thing is that I don't seem to be hungry other than what they call "head hunger" (been my problem all along even before the band...lol). I push it aside and find something to do to take my mind off it. I'm going back to work tonight so we will see what happens.....

Hi Soldelli, I had my surgery on Friday April 12 as well and I told my boss I'd be back on Wednesday but I'm thinking of taking the whole week off as well. It matters what kind of job you have like mine is an office job as an operator. If I stay seated too long I notice pain so I'm thinking of going back on Monday.

I was banded on 9th. I was soo not prepared for the pain. Te first two to three days were horrid. I experienced all of the same but had horrible stomach cramping and diarrhea for those three days. The pain RX ran out all to soon and I'm still dealing with the gas pain and difficulty in taking deep regular breaths without shooting pain under my breast and down my left side. I get to start mushy foods tomorrow and can honestly say I'm not hungry...every time I drink anything I get the painful belches and burps. Almost afraid to eat anything!! I'm so thankful to find this thread. I'm glad to read others are experiencing the same things. :)

I almost forgot...I returned to work today and about halfway thru the day I was really miserable. In my recliner chair with the hesitant pad for the night now.

I was banded on Thursday April 11 and had only anticipated being off of work (desk job) through today. I however was not prepared for how bad I would feel the first three days after surgery so I am taking an additional day off. If I had to do it all over again I would take at least a week off.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
