Just want to share my experience in case anyone else has this issue: My last fill was too tight. I struggled to get food down and stuck with it because I was losing nicely after a long plateau. After a couple of months I started having what felt like acid reflux (I've had it in the past). Also started vomiting. I asked the PA at my surgeon's office if I could take Prilosec for the acid reflux and she told me it was impossible for me to have acid reflux. Huh. She said because the band was too tight food was getting held up in my esophagus and irritating the lining, which felt like acid reflux. She took out 2 cc, said give it two weeks for the inflamation to die down and come back for a 1 cc refill. I left feeling immediately better and having learned something new about my lap band. Just fyi.

If this happens to any one call the office right away so you don't need all of the fill removed it is a long slow road to get up to where you were. It can also give you bad pain in your chest and a regular doctor will think it is heart related or a lung problem csll your surgeon office first.

I have to argue with your PA here. Last year, I started having really bad nightime reflux. I doubt if the brown icky stuff stuck to my pillow in the morning was extra food stuck - it was stomach acid. There's alot of people on this board with reflux. Not sure why it's impossible. If your food was stuck in there and couldn't go anywhere, how did you manage to eat for a couple months?

Just thought I'd add that there's lots of people with bands who have acid reflux. I was 1 of them until I got some Fluid taken out. Don't mean to argue with you, btw - but with your PA....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
