To Weigh or Not to Weigh

Recommended Posts

For the first 100 lbs or so, I weighed once a week, never even thought of weighing everyday, actually. Now, 3 1/2 yrs post op, I weigh everyday. I also like to keep close tabs on my weight before I gain 5 lbs. Doesn't always work tho. Like this past year, weighing myself everyday didn't stop the 21 lbs gain this past year!

Do what feels right for you. Can't stand seeing the scale and not stepping on it

Every day, twice a day. Morning and night. I've never really understood why someone would get aggravated over seeing their weight every day? If you understand that your weight isn't only a result of losing fat and that it's also a result of TOM, sodium intake, stress, carbs, it's easy to accept what the scale indicates. If I eat two slices of pizza I know my weight will probably be 2 lbs higher since I've consumed simple carbs and lots of sodium. My body will retain 32 ozs of fluids due to my poor food choices. I accept that.

And, if I am gaining weight, why would I want to wait till the end of week or month? I want to correct my behavior as quickly as I possiblty can. That's me.

tmf

Absolutely.

I weigh every day first thing in the morning, the scales keep me accountable to myself. I only write the weight down once a week tho, but it is a documented fact that people who weigh themselves regularly are less likely to gain the weight back.

I got to 400 lbs by not weighing myself, would u really be aggravated at a friend if they said u look like u put a lb of weight on, just treat the scales like a friend, and if they show a lb increase use it as motivation to work harder the next day.

I would hate to weigh myself at lesser intervals and find i had put on a few lbs and not know why. Everyday allows u to recall what u did the day before and pinpoint maybe what caused a weight gain.

I agree we are all different and many people manage fine just weighing at the doctors office or only 1 a week or month, but that wouldnt work for me, i have maintained my weight loss for nearly a year now and maintaining a 237 lb weight loss takes a lot of hard work and determination, the scales help me in that determination.

If you take a shower, and dry off, I bet you will see at least a 1 pound gain from the Water that is being held in your skin....

Nope, tried this several times very little difference, evidently the Water retention is offset by the dirt removal :o

I usually weigh in every morning but I am one of those ones who get hung up on the numbers. Even a year later I still struggle with my patience. I preach patience a lot because I don't have much of it. I figure if I preach it enough I will eventually practice it right?? C'mon surely you can all see my logic here ;)

Anyway, I have not weigh in since Monday and its been on the back brain but I promised myself I am not weighing in until next Tuesday which is my 1 year band- iversary.

I weigh myself everyday twice a day moring and night but if you are going to weigh every day you have to realize that getting aggravated with the scale is not something you should do. You have to remember the scale can go up as much as 8 to 10 pounds depending on many things. Water weight, not going to the bathroom, not sleeping, stress. These all can be an evil to the scale. So my suggestion is if you are going to weigh yourself daily then just take the numbers for what its worth and nothing more. Its only a number and you could be losing inches. Either way if it aggravates you then I would say dont do it.

I was weighing myself every morning but there was a 2 week period where I was gaining and losing the same 2 pounds. I know I was eating the right things and should have been losing. I was getting very discouraged and in the past before the band that was a sign for me to start eating what I wanted because why should I suffer if I am not going to lose. This time I decided to ignore the scale for a week and be strong and stick with it. low and behold I lost 5 pounds. The scale can be your best friend and worst enemy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
