I have PCOS and I had Lap band surgery on 2/28. I haven't had cycles on my own for about 10 years. This Sunday, I started a period on my own, but only lasted on Sunday and nothing Monday and now spotting again. Anyone else experienced this? It is amazing to have a period on my own, but what is up with it being sporadic days?

Had PCOS when I was heavier. It's hormonal and as you lose weight your body becomes more sensitive. It is why pcos gals like us who had to take meds etc to get pregnant suddenly find themselves pregnant (Like me again) 1 year after getting banded by surprise (no meds). Careful careful :P

Yep this happened to a friend of mine. No cycles for 5 years, then that first weird, spotty period 3 months after surgery and only having gone down 20lbs and next month, she was pregnant after trying to conceive unsuccessfully for years.

As you lose, the symptoms of PCOS will reduce, which often means the slow but steady return of your TOM. :P

I sure hope so. It took me 4 years to have my daughter and we have been trying again for 5 years. I really would like to start trying again in September. I think a lot has to do with me getting older too. My doctor told me weight loss and hitting my mid 30's would even out my hormones. Fingers crossed for another baby in the future..lord knows I am not getting any younger here. :)

I have PCOS and have been thru extinsive fertility 2 no avail. I was banded nov 1st and am down 60lbs and like many other women w/ PCOS I have never normally cycled on my own. Usally I have 1 maybe 2 periods a year... But for the last 3 months I have been cycling on my own! I can even tell now when I am ovulating! I have been married for 12 years and we have been trying for all 12 of those years... After no baby after all these years and accepting that our lives would be that way its BOTH exciting and scary at the prospect of perhaps getting preg! I leave in all in the hands of the Lord.

I forgot to mention that I have lost 4 babies, because of the PCOS. Needless to say it is my sworn enemy. To be able to conceive naturally and have no complications would be a dream come true. I will pray for all you ladies!

I have pcos and have definitely noticed a more regular period with weight loss. I used to get a period once every blue moon and they'd be super super heavy, now I get them roughly every month and they typically last 4-7 days. Obviously regular periods equal regular ovulation so I'm hoping to try and have kids once I lose another 40 pounds or so. Exciting!

I had this same thing happen after I lost 20lbs and now every month I have a cycle. I had not had a regular one since 2004 when I was able to get pregnant.

I was on birth control for maybe 2 months when I was around 19. I didn't like the way it made me feel. On this period, I just bled off and on for about 5 days, very light. I put a call into my OB to make sure it was normal and they said it was unless I kept doing this for a couple of weeks. I stopped on FrIday, so all is good and I just had myself a light period!!! I am so excited. I have also officially lost 28 lbs and have reached my first goal...to be 200 lbs! I hope I have another period again next month, it would be so exciting to be regular like I never had PCOS to begin with. Good Luck ladies!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
