Rosehip 5 Posted April 9, 2013 Hi this is my first post, so glad to find these forums! I am 35 years old. 5 ft 2 and 257lbs. No co-morbitities. My surgeon wants me to get clearances from a cardiologist, pulmonary specialist, do a sleep study, and an upper GI scope. Are these normal requirements for all surgeons? I appreciate his concern for my health, but wonder if given my relatively good health if all the testing is necessary. Especially the sleep study given that I have no sleep apnea symptoms. (Of course I will do the tests as required) Thanks for any input
maddoxam13 13 Posted April 9, 2013 Yes these are normal! I had to do them as well. I her my last appt next week then ill be scheduled for surgery. But yeah don't worry!! I think it's good that your doc is taking all the precautions necessary to ensure this will work for you and you'll be healthy during the process! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
OnMyWay2Thin 45 Posted April 9, 2013 Yes, they are all normal. The only one that wasn't required for me was the upper GI scope. I was also required to get a psych evaluation and attend preparation classes. Good luck with everything! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
hely88 883 Posted April 9, 2013 I do not remember having to do all that, but I really trust my doctor and his practice and I would have done anything that he requested. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

losethemess 14 Posted April 10, 2013 Yes this is normal. I did 6 months of supervised weight loss classes with a dietician, psychiatric evaluation, heart test then insurance paperwork was submitted. I was approved. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
ksaug21 81 Posted April 10, 2013 For my surgeon I had to go to the pulmonologist, have a sleep test, blood work, upper GI test, see a nutritionist and the psych study. I only had to see the nutritionist once and if I want I can continue to see her after the surgery. I really did not enjoy the sleep test, but the rest were fine to do! For my insurance I had to meet with the surgeon for three consecutive months. On Monday I go for my Pre-Surgery visit. I'm still scheduled for the 29th! Good luck. The band is the best thing u have done for my health in over 25 years!!
