Hello all! I've been addicted to this community ever since I started researching the lap-band. This site along with a few others have been very helpful in aiding my decision to have the Surgery.

I find great comfort on this site as it provides a place for me to interact with others that are in a similar situation as myself.

After years and years of contemplating the band and repeatedly giving dieting "one last GOOD try", I've come to the realization that I need another tool to help me achieve my weight loss goals and I believe that the lap band is that tool. I look forward to sharing my journey with all of you and perhaps pay forward some of the encouragement that I received through everyone's posts.

Tony

Tony - I was banded two weeks ago, and found SO much comfort, information and help on this site; just before surgery, and since.

I contemplated WLS for close to a year before actually moving forward. The two I looked closely at was the gastric bypass and the lap band. I teeter tottered back & forth between the two for a long time. I was scheduled for the bypass, then freaked out about 10 days prior. In between that and my decision to go with the band (plus plication), I gave dieting one more good try. That was about a two week period, and I managed to gain three more pounds.

Congrats on your decision! I'm on my path, and soon you will be, too. It's a lot of work, but even this early on, I'm finding my new "tool" is quickly becoming my new best friend :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
