I just scheduled my first fill for April 19th and I am very excited. Just wondering though...what determines how much of a fill I get? Does the doctor use their discretion, or do they usually go by a set plan? I had my surgery in Mexico, but my follow up is with a Dr. in Denver. I'm just trying to figure out how it works.

Your doc will make that determination. Who is your doc in Denver? Mine is Frank Chae.

I know its not good to assume or guess, but I will here. Since a different doctor will be performing your fills than did your installation, I will ASSUME/guess...that he/she will do the first fill using fluoro. That will allow them to see correct placement, and to make sure all looks well. Then, they will probably adjust your band to provide SOME restriction. It may be they will only fill a very small amount the first time or two, to see how you tolerate/adapt to restriction. Then again, you may have a doc that just fills a set amount, no matter how much restriction it provides. Hope for the first scenerio. :)

Take a look at this link if you have time: http://www.hoab.org/fluoroscopy-machine-st-louis-missouri/

Toomuchfun - I am going to see Dr. Tillquist...and I think he is actually in Englewood. I live in Northern NM, so coming into Denver is a little foreign for me, but my best aftercare option.

Thank you catfish...I will look at the link right now.

Hard to tell what your doctor is going to do. Just make sure to ask a lot of questions to find out how his after care is going to be. I would start a list of questions to take with you. Keep us posted.

Tillquist has been around a long time. I think you made a good choice. I doubt he'll run you around and will give you great care.

I had my surgery by Dr. Tillquist. I love him, he has been a great Dr. , although he may not be the warmest person in the world he is up front and doesn't beat around the corner. I got my surgery on 01-21-13. When did you get yours?

I actually had my surgery in Mexico on March 20th, but I am using Dr. Tillquist as my follow up dr. Thanks for the info. I prefer him to be straight forward and a no bs kind of guy. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
