So, I've lost 85 pounds since my surgery last December, and I noticed my skin is sagging especially on my arms and thighs...has anyone discovered any effective skin firming methods or lotions?

Unfortunately once the skin is saggy there isn't much you can do beyond surgery. Skin sag has to be addressed as you lose. Once it's already too loose that's pretty much how it's going to stay.

It's all genetics really. Some people don't have saggy skin and others have tons.

I agree- not much can be done. Save your money and find a good plastic surgeon lol. Seriously, I do believe surgery is the only way to remedy saggy skin. If you go that route, I caution you to maintain the weight loss for a while, at least a year. I rushed into it and am sorry, since I have regained some weight. We'll see as I loose again what my skin does. I did try a lotion, think it was Jergens. I ended up getting a bad rash, I have sensitive skin and there was lots of fragrance in it.

How much sag do you have? Generally speaking, I found that where the skin was stretched to buggery, it didn't bounce back to normal, i.e. my tummy, my back, my inner thighs etc. But where the skin was not too stretched (so where I didn't have stretch marks) they actually tightened of their own accord over the years.

I had the worst bingo wings after I lost all the weight. But I didn't have any stretch marks under my arms, and eventually they went back to nearly normal. Same for my outer thighs and the skin near my elbows. They eventually shrunk over 1 - 2 years to fit the rest of me. And while I had a belt lipectomy for the tummy, my skin on my inner thighs, while it never completely shrunk back, was not as loose as it was from right after I lost weight. My reconstructive surgeon actually told me that he believed that the only place he thought I needed surgery was my tummy and back, and it turns out he was pretty spot on!

Yep it does suck. My doctor just says you will or will not have sagging skin. I will say I have been using nuance products on my face and people are starting to compliment me. I have a lot of wrinkles from weight loss.

I have tons of saggy skin. I use lotion every day. My arms, boobs and thighs are the worse. Hoping to have plastics one day.

I agree that it is genetics and I would say age. I was overweight all my life 50+ years so I can't imagine that it will fix on it's own. If you are younger you may have a better chance.

I use a firming lotion, no smelly ones, I have sensitive skin also!

This topic has been on my mind a lot. I do not want to have plastic surgery so I am trying everything I can to see if I can avoid it.

I'm 38 so I was already starting to see dry skin on my hands this last winter and I am sure that getting the Lap Band this last fall did not help in that; consuming a lot less oils :-).

Here is what I have been doing:

1. Trader Joe's Vitamine E oil or Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil in the shower

2. Occasional application of L'Occitane on my tummy (Horribly expensive I know!)

I recently came across another L'Occitane product that I will try I think - Almond Supple Skin Oil, looks like it does target skin toning.

Not sure if it will help but I have been doing this ever since I got the band so hopefully I have a head start. I've lost about 65 lbs so far so I will see how it goes.

Best of luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
