1 Week Banded, What am I feeling?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I was banded on Monday April 17th. I am feeling pretty good but I am having some weird feelings. I am not sure what they are. Let me try to explain and see if anybody knows what they are. I tried to search for all post about gas but nothing came up.

I think it is gas but my main concern is when it will go away. If I am laying down and get up I get this thing in my throat. It hurts pretty bad and it kinda leads into a hic up or something. Does this make since? Is this gas too??????

Then in the afternoons after I have done a good bit of activity, my stomach hurts SO bad. It moves around, like gas. I have never had gas like this in my life, but finally in the morning I will be able to poot and it won't hurt again till the afternoon. Sorry for the detailed information but I am desperate to know what this is. Does everybody have this? Or just some people? Why do you get it?

When am I suppose to have a BM?

I am still on liquids for another week.

You might want to take some chewable Gas X that will help with the gas... and you havent had a BM in how long? 1 week? You might want to take Milk of Mag. to get things moving... then start adding Benefiber (comes in powder form no taste) to your Water, broth, protien shakes.< /p>

You might want to talk to your nutritionist about advancing your diet. The symptoms you describe in the AM could be due to acid reflux or a hiatal hernia. The other symptoms sound like gas and/or Constipation. Increase your Water intake and call your MD or dietician.

I don't recommend anything chewable hon. Gas X or Malox Plus liquids. If you drink enough, each time you feel the gas or after you drink broth or so, you'll pass it in a day or 2. It took me 1 whole day and took my friend about 3 days (she didn't take her malox, finally did after the 3rd day and it went away).

Malox was my answer. Bowel movement?? Stay on the liquids and it will come (trust me)..be careful though, it will be mostly liquid(y). Sorry for graphics.

Elizabeth Don't scare me like that!

I read up on hiatal hernias and this is what I found. This was under

"When to seek medical advice"

Many people discover they have hiatal hernias when they see their doctors about heartburn. Most cases of heartburn are mild and temporary. But if your symptoms are severe, occur often, or are accompanied by coughing, wheezing, asthma, a sore throat, difficulty swallowing or chest pain, talk to your doctor.

I am not having heartburn or trouble swallowing or any of the others. I just have a weird feeling like a hic up. My stomach does hurt but if I have enough gas in there, that would be the reason. The pain will get real bad and then you can hear my stomach errrrr, I can feel something move, then it is instant relief, for a litle while anyway. so I don't think this is my problem. But if it continues for more that 2 or 3 weeks then I will start to worry. I don't like being scared.

Sarah, the feeling you speak of was exactly what I felt. I felt like I was having a painful hicup, though the hicup sound never happened, it was gas.

Gas X or Malox. I know I am not a doctor but I know that I had exactly what you had and it went away in a day. I struggled that whole first night in the hospital. I was literally passing gas through the band and it hurt my chest and throat. Think of the Malox commercial, where when you drink it...it coats your stomach wall and pushes out the gas.

Get that Malox and start drinking.

I agree about the Maalox. I heard it comes now with Magnesium, as is Milk of Magnesia...so it appears to be a mixture of both? Haven't read the label so look before you gulp. THAT sounds like the ticket. To me anyway.

Your band is tight post-surgery. You have swelling and your tummy is getting used to this new little noose. Give it a sec, and it will settle down. Your tummy and your band will quit arguing about whose gonna win and start working together. Hang in there. Sip slowly and be careful moving to the next food stage. You don't want to aggravate the area and produce more swelling. Keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
